Nice coin, congrats on acquiring it!

That's a beauty!
That’s a real-one alright. The mythical 2/2 hub type, pretty toning and high grade what’s not to like.

Type 2 Obverse paired with a Type 2 Reverse. There are 4 die pair combinations for the 1876 proof Trade dollars. Check out this thread of OriginalDan's from 6 years ago for an excellent write-up and photos of all 4 types:

Most excellent!!
That’s a score, for sure!
Neat coin @trueblood, although a bit dark for my taste, judging by the HA slab shots. I'm glad you enjoy it.
Assuming you used HA make offer feature, it looks like you really wanted it! That was a.....healthy offer.
@trueblood Care to post up photos of your other Trade Dollars? I'd love to see them! Nice piece!
It will be on the PCGS registry
Error made also looking for an 1875 Proof in pcgs 65 grade
Didn't know what you were talking about until I went to HA.com. FYI I did not go through HA.com, I bought it privately and would never pay that kind of money for a PR65, that's crazy money that was offered there?
Weird, since you posted the pictures from HA.com.
LOL, I thought that would be far better than my hand held iPhone photos, but if you want one I will post it later
Agreed, The guy who made those offers was nuts. I hear he is going though a tough divorce so there is a chance half of his coins will hit the market soon and we can all pick up deals for a fraction of what he paid.

I was recently fortunate enough to also realize that this was T.Harrison Garrett's 1876 Proof
Makes sense, special coins would have been in special collections. While a little dark, a gem 2/2 proof trade is a cool coin.

Will you ask PCGS to note the provenance on the slab?
Maybe someday, right now our hosts are pretty busy, will wait for a more quiet period
its a showstopper, i think.

I just wanted to add that it is a little darkly toned, with lots of color. Totally original and very similarly toned as the 1875 Garrett was, and that one was also a little darkly toned with great color. Seems like Garrett stored these 2 similarly.
