One of the local dealers was talking about how high premiums have gotten on silver and that they were having an impossible time finding any let alone keeping any in stock. I reminded them they'd shown me a few boxes of those 1970s Franklin Mint 1000 grain sterling silver bars last year. If ever there was a time to offload that kind of stuff, it seems like it's now. Lightbulb went off and they told me they'd dig out all they could over the weekend and put it out Monday.

Came back a few days later and they had dug out not only the Franklin Mint pieces, but also a couple of big bags of 1950s Mexican pieces they'd put back years ago. 5 pesos and 10 pesos. Both coins are larger than a US silver dollar. The difference between the 5 and 10 peso is mostly in their purity: The 5 peso at is .720 pure at 27.28 grams, the 10 peso is .900 pure at 28.88 grams (way bigger than a US silver dollar at .900 pure at 23.73 grams).

I know a lot of people don't understand or know enough about these kind of Mexican coins to like them. But I think they're really cool. And even though the purity on some of them is odd, they say right on them what the purity is and what they weigh. To me, that's what's cool about bullion: It gives you the weight and the purity right on it.

Anyway, I couldn't pass them up at melt plus a couple of bucks each for 50+ year old BU silver. Got 22 of the 5 peso and 20 of the 10 peso:
