Yesterday, while paying for my purchases at Wally World, I received a nice surprise in my change. I was at a self serve checkout. When my change was dispensed, I immediately noticed an extremely worn coin in the change tray. I was almost sure it was silver. I collected my change. I immediately examined the coin. At first I thought that the wear made it look like it had been through a dryer. I asked my wife to read the date for me, since she was wearing glasses. It was a 1944! First time in many years that I received a silver quarter in change. It was worn as heck, but pleasing and problem free.

Just recieved this 1941 P nickel in change at Starbucks.
It has been working hard for 80 years now.
Score.
Man! I have a 1964 quarter I got last year that has PVC damage, but no picture.
Nice one!
Silver in change.... That is great!! Not very much of it floating around anymore. I found $2.17 in change in the coinstar the other day.... lots of dimes and quarters... but no silver... Thought sure when I raked out that much change there would be a silver dime there... Cheers, RickO
I got this one in change a while back. Don't remember where but your thread reminded me of it and where I put it - Desk drawer at work
Who in the hell pays with cash?🤣😂
Exachary! That's why you do
nice, i havent gotten any of them in years. congrats
We are becoming a cashless society but I do pay cash as much as possible. Never know what will come back in change.
No one! Coins are only for collectors and roll searchers.
Where is all the physical coins and currency hiding? Feds have been chartering jets because they have been running out of money. BEP can’t keep up.
I don't know about paper money, but there are new coin collectors every day and also old collectors. Every one is keeping all their coins because they are afraid that they might have some undiscovered variety that may be worth a lot of money someday because they see all these videos and advertisements about someone finding a modern coin in change and selling it for thousands of dollars.. So, it only costs them face value so they are not losing anything by keeping all the change they get.
Also, the federal reserve says that there are enough coins to go around and it is just that they have distribution problems right now.
Where is the paper money? Good question!! (I certainly don't have any of it) Casinos and banks always have a lot of cash on hand (also coin dealers) and drug smugglers and the like. However, the average everyday housewife uses credit cards for every purchase (as do I). A lot of people are afraid to carry any significant amount of cash around (not to mention the confiscation laws). Just think of the situation we would be in if there were no credit cards and you needed cash for every purchase!
Not as fun as finding silver, but a change find from today. A well travelled penny I'm sure........
Us hunters do, I always pay with cash, keep a good amount at home, you know, it's for the children.
