This is sure to end badly for someone (eBay)

csdotcsdot Posts: 654 ✭✭✭✭

Description says: "1914-S $20 Gold St Gaudens Motto PCGS MS65"
https://www.ebay.com/itm/133742318238?hash=item1f23a9d29e:g:6KUAAOSwF3Vghvx1

Maybe I am missing something, but the coin appears to be raw. The following examples from Seller's History suggest that the Seller is an experienced eBayer:

  • Great coin. Problems, but they all were resolved.
  • Says NEW but the phone was actually used.
  • won ring&paid same day, may 28. today is june 23 and still not received the ring
  • Took a while to get here, but it was exactly as described! Nice item, like new!
  • seller was unaware of present condition.misleading info was not intentional

I think he is a very experienced ebayer, experienced at separating people from money.

Strange, I'm surprised eBay has not noticed the false title. In the description it says "ungraded".

    The seller has concerning feedback.

The seller doesn't appear to have much experience in selling coins and probably copied stuff from other listings. The only way it will end badly is if a bidder ignores everything in the listing and bids based on the title alone.

    I reported the listing.

For whatever it’s worth, I reported it as a listing violation of inappropriate item subject. Basically keyword spamming intended to mislead.

Good catch. I wonder why eBay allows a Seller to both select "ungraded" for the Grade and "PCGS" for the Certification Company?

The listing has been revised and the PCGS reference is no longer there.

If the seller routinely has the wrong info in the listing, it could be another case of hitting the "sell one like this" button while not knowing the differences between what you have and the listing you're starting with. That doesn't blanketly excuse the seller, but it's led to plenty of problems with listings.

The screen shot shows it will end bad for at least 0 bidders.

Under the item specifics as shown in the post above yours (Certification: PCGS) it is still there.

You can have an ungraded coin certified as genuine.

    Unbelievable.

Which? That eBay can't manage to keep things consistent on their website or that there are people who don't have a very good understanding of coins?

    I find both believable.

Yeah, this is a big nothing burger. Guy copied a listing and made a couple of mistakes. I'm sure one of my listings probably has a mistake right now that I haven't noticed.

Wow! Twelve feedbacks, five raising concerns. I didn't think it was possible.
