    UPGRADE

    1852 $20 MS62 CERTIFICATION #41258890, PCGS #8906

This coin is a nice Type 1 upgrade. My set is now higher quality than Eliasberg but considerably below the quality level of the top 3 sets. The Hansen set is actually an upgrading of the AWA set.

Stunning coin. Great find and addition to your set.

    1883-CC $20 AU58 CERTIFICATION #43799404, PCGS #8999

My $20 CC collection is not great. The bidding is very intense on these. Did you see what the 1870CC went for at Heritage?

That's a great looking CC. Congrats. I wish prices had not skyrocketed before I got one for my type set.

Very nice @gschwernk You have an amazing collection of Liberty DE's.

The thought of 149 Liberty Head $20 coins in one collection is mind blowing.

Wow very nice, a lot of work I don’t have the will power to do a set. I see gold and buy it because it’s a good deal. So I will have 5 or 6 of the same dates. But that’s just me crazy Type2.

    Hoard the keys.

Beautiful coin. I have a 64+CAC. Yours is a deeper gold color.

Not a problem in MS63 except for 1902 and 1905

Prices seem to be exploding. In this weekend's Great Collections I put in strong bids about 20% over guide on 7 minor upgrades mostly MS63 to replace MS61. I was outbid on all. I dislike how GC auctions are run. If you really want a coin you need to snipe. Bidding is not extended like on DLRC. I am not usually available to do this on late Sunday.

I agree. I have been trying to get a Type 2 upgrade in a common date. The prices have doubled in a very short time. PCGS Guide prices are lagging and so are the prices on the CAC site. People are throwing money around like its the roaring 20's. Oh wait, it is.

I looked back to the sale. I was outbid on two Type 2 coins. An 1874 and an 1876S. Good luck. Maybe better luck at DLRC. Also sometimes lower grade coins at Major Auctions can slip by(Legend, Heritage,Stacks).

At least we are not bidding against each other. I am in single A ball and you are in the "Show". Fun to watch your sets get built.

This collection was sold at the Heritage Central States Auction. The realizations were mostly excellent. All CC dates and 20th century cac coins were particularly strong. I was worried the recent stock market woes and drop in gold would kill sales but prices while not crazy did hold up.

Congratulations. Wish I had known the collection was being sold. I’m always looking for a Type 2 upgrade and your coins were amazing.

    Congratulations on the sale!

    I thought the prices were solid overall. As you mentioned, many of the CC’s seemed particular strong, eg, 1871-CC $20 PCGS XF40 for $55K, 1873-CC $20 PCGS XF45 for $18K, 1878-CC $20 PCGS AU50 for $26K, and 1879-CC $20 PCGS AU53 for $26K. The 1874-CC $20 PCGS AU58 was a bit low at $12K.

The two biggest surprises to me were the 1889 $20 PCGS MS62 for $15300 and 1892-CC $20 PCGS MS62+ for $32K. Presumably these are upgrade candidates.

Did you consider sending these to CAC for review prior to the sale?

Congratulations indeed is in order. Very nice collection and I sure you departed with mix emotions. Did you feel it was a good time to sell, or just done all you can with it and moving on to other challenges? I know you are working on the 100 set which is impossible for many of the required coins. Do you have other series you looking to tackle?

I felt is was a good time to sell and after I was out bid 3 times on the 1870CC I knew it would be very difficult to aquire the coins I would need to complete this collection. I enjoy the coin buying process so I was looking to explore some new areas. I just finished a Peace Dollar set that will be #1 when I post it. I am currently working on a Buffalo Nickle set that I would like to get to #1. I reached my goal on the 100 Greatest set but I may add 1 or 2 more if they become available. I have been outbid on the last 4 100 Greatest coins I bid on.

You need a proxy bidder so no one knows it is you bidding. I( have used them before when I was going after a 23-s Walker... You do what you got to do.
