Bizarre counterfeit. Reported, but thought some might enjoy this for a giggle.

It would be comical if for whatever reason that was struck in real gold. $1,800. worth of gold and say someone ended up winning it for $500. or so.
I am sure the auction will be killed before that happens though.
peacockcoins
It says replica in the description FWIW

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Hey! Where's TDN?
The original listing is no longer valid.
Isn’t this a fantasy strike, rather than a counterfeit?
Listing has been nuked.... Thanks for grabbing a picture. Cheers, RickO
The rims were all wrong for an "S" mint
For a second I thought it was a rare pattern coin LOL 😆
It looks like it'd really be tasty if you unwrapped it.
that is one cool coin

If Dan Carr did it, some people would jump all over it.
I have one is it real or fake
Read the first post
It would have been a cool coin.
Is it filled with chocolate?

i know at least several people in this thread have been at this much longer than me and know a lot more than me so i'll ask the dumb question, "a replica of what?"

It is a replica of a Trade Dollar. The fact that it is a crappy replica does not make it not a replica.
i was really aiming at any known legit coin that has the trade design obv/rev with the $5. didn't know if there was some pattern out there. the pattern catalog is pure craziness and it seems anything is possible.
i'm pretty certain we've seen this type on here before. fwiw

If it was not so crappy and struck using a legitimate trade dollar as a planchet, would it be a replica, or what?
I picked up an 1885-S Trade Dollar (Type I/I!) from eBay recently. The guy generally sells books. I explained it was a fake. It was in auction with a high starting or BIN price. I like having an assortment of these and figured about twenty bucks was worth it for a conversation piece. He was cool about it all. No need to make his life uncomfortable on the platform.
.
tbh, from what i read (and i STILL haven't read all the updated version(s)), there is a fine line between replica and illegal counterfeit. technically a counterfeit with COPY appropriately applied is not an illegal one (really the only difference) so it seems that is where replica comes into play BUT w/o the exact legal definition(s) with specifications, i won't swear to it one way or the other. i THINK there was even a little wiggle room to squeeze in the word Token for designation of some "replicas."
there are some private makers that ARE in violation of the updated versions, despite using non-extant dates but then again there are a couple areas at least that if the gov decided to press, would fall outside the scope of legal to posses for the public and/or private.
there is also come pretty convincing paper currency being mass-produced (for years now) that most of it the only difference is REPLICA on it. comes all banded up and everything.
ALL of this and more seems to always balance on that dangerously sharp blade edge of "why don't they do more vs not throwing every single law breaker into prison." after decades on this ball of dirt, i STILL don't know what the best answer is but it sure ain't throwing everyone under the prison/jail. i think that is just because nothing else seems to work, so people have to live with the loss of their freedom in usually very rough conditions/environments. (this has been pushed to its limits world-wide the past couple years)
