Someone please tell Aaron Boone that .357 is a good batting average but a horrible winning percentage.

    Final:

    Rays - 6
    Yankees - 3

Yanks will be fine regular season but haven't got the pitching to compete in postseason.

The question isn’t are they mathematically out of it, the question is are they emotionally into it.

So my understanding if i'm interpreting the thread correctly, is that this 2021 Yankees team may not surpass the accomplishments of the 1927 Yankees team?

Commonly heard remark in the Yankees locker room this season:

"Sorry coach, I got a little paper cut while opening the mail for my weekly six figure paycheck, and so i just can't play today. Maybe next week when it heals up."

Reports out of the Bronx are that Aaron Boone is holding a mandatory meeting. He wants to show a motivational film to get the Yankee ship heading in the right direction.

The big bats already have tons of money so don't want to waste time watching old movies!

Must win today. Gerritt Cole 2-0 with a 1.47 era on the mound.

At 125-50, the 1998 New York Yankees are actually the franchise’s ‘standard’ as they were arguably the most perfect baseball team ever constructed.

i was shocked to hear yesterday that the last Yankees team to be by themselves in last place was the 1998 Yankee team. it was very early in April.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

All of us "real" New York'ers know, you gotta be born in NY to be a real Yankees fan! :D;)

I remember I was a Yankees fan back in 1950 when they had some great players but them found the Red Sox and have been a fan ever since. For a while there the Red Sox tried to be the Yankees and buy every overpriced player out there but now have stopped doing that as once they have more money than they know what to do with they stop playing hard. By the way I wish I had saved some of those players cards back then instead of using them to make noise on my bicycle. How many of you have done that when you were a kid?

The Yankees team winning percentage is .333 and Brando Nimmo of the Mets is hitting .471

Is there something wrong with that picture ?

  • stevekstevek Posts: 28,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tough start for a team with the highest payroll in the American League.

  • GoldenageGoldenage Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

No matter how much he may want to, Gerrit Cole cannot do it all. The Yankees’ right-hander cannot get the offense going or steady the defense behind him. So, the Yankees wasted another of his strong starts on Sunday. Cole allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits. He struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. The Yankees, however, still dropped their fifth straight game, losing 4-2 to the Rays at the Stadium.

The Rays (8-8) swept the three games to take their second series of the season from the Yankees (5-10). It is the first time the Yankees have been swept in a series of at least three games since Aug. 18-20, 2020, when the Rays also swept them.

    Hey-

You can tell all your friends you heard it here first: "The Yankees have the AL East right where they want them!"

I'm a true NY'er and Yankees fan. I only "start" watching baseball in October.

  • GoldenageGoldenage Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

Brian Cashman participated in a teleconference with reporters Monday to “reinforce” that the Yankees “are not going to adjust course” after 15 games. He stressed patience over panic. Cashman, three-plus decades with the Yankees and two-plus as GM, mentioned experience has taught him to weather the annual bad stretches if you believe in your process and product.

“We know there are better days ahead,” Cashman said.

I almost didn't open this thread. I didn't look at who started it at first, and not being a Yankees fan myself, I didn't want to read about them. Then, I finally get around to it, I am pleasantly surprised. Let's just hope the trend continues.

    @thisistheshow

Not sure if @Goldenage is a Yankees fan or not; but I don’t think it really matters either. I’m always happy to talk sports but I tend to be pretty realistic when talking sports. I’m only a part timer here in the Sports Forums, mostly here for the cards 😉

Baseball seasons are long and this start doesn’t have to end with a bad season. The next ten games will be sort of big in that Atlanta is a tough but short series, and the Cleveland and Baltimore clubs are not playing too great either and this Yankees team has tended to hit well against these two clubs in recent years. So in two weeks, a sigh of relief could be in sight as we could get right back to at or either side of .500. After the start they’re having, I’d sign for that. A game or two either of .500 by May 5.

The problem as I see it is going to be pitching. Gerritt Cole is fantastic. I could see Kluber righting the ship to be a credible take the ball every 5th day type of starter. Not an ace but a guy who can pitch into the 6th and give us a good chance to win most starts. But after that? This rotation leaves a lot to be desired. No baseball team should feel good about their staff if it’s an ace and four projects. It’s a recipe for disaster. And for the Yankees it is completely unacceptable to have a rotation like that (after Cole and Kluber, it’s Taillon, Montgomery, German, Devy Garcia and maybe Luis Severino down the line) when they didn’t have to when there were some very credible major league starting pitchers available this offseason. Once again, the Yankees seem far too content to consider making the playoffs the goal they’re trying achieve rather than winning the World Series.

It sure looks that way to this Yankees fan, anyway.

What is losing? Losing is a disease, as contagious as polio … as contagious as bubonic plague, attacking one but infecting all. Ah, but curable.

#LetsGoSwitzerlandThe Man Who Does Not Read Has No Advantage Over the Man Who Cannot Read. The biggest obstacle to progress is a habit of “buying what we want and begging for what we need.”You get the Freedom you fight for and get the Oppression you deserve.

I heard the Yankees just signed a player named Roy Hobbs.

Very strange signing a 34 year old rookie?

The great Boston rock group Aerosmith wrote a song that went like this..................

    I'm back !!!!!!!!!

I'm back in the cellar again !!!!

    I'm back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went down to Baltimore to try to climb over the birds, but came up short.

You would think the pitching should at least keep them close.

Great series with the Red Sox this past weekend! Fifteen more games to go this year . The sox need to make up for the last 2 years which were a disaster.

It was a great series. I wish we had pulled one out but the Red Sox have played better baseball and it showed up this weekend.

Gleyber Torres has had COVID twice. Once before he was vaccinated and once after. I don’t know if that’s the reason but while he has been coming on of late, he has lost power in his swing.

Some of his breakout season was tied to fluky power against (almost historically) bad Baltimore pitching. Top of my head maybe 14 of 35 HR.
