The following is an interesting article:

The Great Depression led to many of the hobbies we enjoy now. The pandemic created a whole host of new ones

The owner of my local hobby shop (a rare well stocked one that covers many hobbies) tells me that the past months have been excellent for sales. It will be interesting to see how many of these hobbies continue to prosper when the Covid19 crisis finally passes. (I got my second Covid19 shot this morning.)

No new hobbies here as nothing was really all that different for me. I had already been working from home and I didn't find myself with additional free time. I did take advantage of some the early deals in coins that I saw last year. I'm grateful for the vaccines, though.

    Book Sales Surge
Dennis Tucker of Whitman Publishing writes:

"There’s a surge in numismatic book sales of late. We’ve already sold out the first print run of the Continental Currency book, as well as the 2nd edition of the Guide Book of Gold Eagle Coins and the Check List and Record Book of United States and Canadian Coins. Americans seem to be getting back to the classic hobbies, much as we did during the Great Depression."

Nice connection to the CNN article above :+1:

Hobbies are also great prevention from depression.
We are very lucky to live in the era of internet, free information and tons of useful free courses.
Here is a great example https://skillcourses.com/best-free-dance-classes-online/. I am going to take part in one of those course at the beginning of October.

My LCS mentioned sales have stayed consistent with the bump from Covid

I haven't gone to any "new" hobbies, more so transitioned to one of my other hobbies full time since coin prices have gotten to high in my areas of coin interests, since covid. And it's a hobby that was popular from the 30s - 60s before slowing down in popularity.

I find more abandoned hobby rummage at the thrifts since the re-opening. Board games, jigsaw puzzles, knitting supplies, crafting tripe, brushes and paint-—daily. I’m here in this forum because someone left a big Dansco cent album in the donation bin.
I want to finish this project and move on:
