What does that mean? I don’t believe they’d tell you to submit it in a stapled 2x2 under normal circumstances.
I don't either, but if he talked to them before submitting it and told them the coin was already in a flip, they might have told him it was okay to send it like that. He uses "stapled 2x2" and "flip" interchangeably in his posts- even though he says he understands the difference, he doesn't seem to recognize that most people make a distinction between the two.
@RelicKING said: @coinbuf from all my posts of me repeating i dont care about the grade my issue isnt about the grade? if you mean that then uh okay? this comes from you bringing up the grade repeatedly i have to repeat myself repeatedly.
and while we are looking at posts i can see from yours and how you only buy ngc graded coins i can see why you are here defending your pride and joy. i simply had a bad experience and do not agree with a coin being given a final grade before it even starts the process of how a coin typically is supposed to be graded. so if i lash out at you and its bothering you maybe a: go away and go enjoy your day or b: go away. and actually the morgan photo is of a details obverse coin so if thats not a great example of grading is subjective with you saying a clean coin then that drills my point down.
Your the one that came here with your unfounded accusations and untruthful statements, this mountain you have made of a molehill is entirely of your own hand, that you cannot or refuse to see that is also on you.
@MFeld apologies i might not be the best one to ask about written instructions on making a sandwich! everything makes sense in my head ya know? anyways the coin was looked at and given a grade while in the original 2x2 then i was contacted about adjusting the insurance down so that i might save on return shipping. the shipping manager stated its already been graded with the details reverse. i had no idea at this time it was slabbed or not slabbed so she offered and i asked for photos of the scratches. she states she has to run the coin to the photographer and she will email me the photos. she emails me the photos she just had taken and also gave the grade it was receiving in the email. the photos are of the coin in submitted form. i ask immediately why or how it was given a grade while remaining in the 2x2 and she states that didnt matter it was graded by a finalizer who happened to be a president of the company. she asked me if i wanted the coin returned as is and i stated if im being charged for it it should atleast go through the process of being graded and if possible by another person and she said okay she would send it like normal. then about 10 minutes later my debit card is charged, my status changes from submitted for grading to finalized / imaged / shipped. no way it was handled properly.

i do man it just gets old when people drone on about me not being happy with the grade it got im not mad at that. i do think its wrong but im not mad. this wasnt intended to be made about the grade. im just at a loss on the process of events on how it happened and i prob dont explain it 100% im trying though.

Let's play devil's advocate and assume the coin was graded in the stapled cardboard holder. Why might NGC do that? There's risk of damaging the coin taking it out of that holder--the coin could get scratched by the staple, or they could accidentally nick the coin with a knife (I usually cut the mylar to get the coin out). If they can take a look at the coin and see enough to make a determination, perhaps there's no need to do more and expose the coin to any risk. If the coin looked problem-free in the holder, they'd have to take it out to get a numeric grade assigned.
You also note that NGC didn't give you the courtesy of changing the submission level. By the time they would have known that, everything you pay for at the walkthrough tier--namely, speed--had been done. If you go to a restaurant and get a great steak, when you're done and totally stuffed, they don't ask if you'd rather have a hamburger and charge you the hamburger price, but they don't make you pay for the richest dessert when you have room for only a nibble of the cheapest one.

I own about 700 Seated Liberty coins in slabs. Based on the initial pictures, the reverse scratches looked pretty obvious, even under the toning. Darn toning will hide sins-sigh. Reverse strike is overall strong. The obverse strike is also strong, with the exception of the head. That weak head is common, and often the difference between a low MS grade and a high one; unless the grader is super familiar with specific years/varieties/die states, which is a rare occurrence. They can't know everything. Not sure the coin warranted a walkthru, to begin with. Sorry you paid a premium for a confusing experience. If I don't learn something new every day, I feel cheated. Chalk this one up to a learning experience and move on. Good luck with your next submissions.

thank you. and yeah i wanted the walkthrough for the speed even though they fail mentioning it takes them 20 days to open mail lol.. but yeah bad experience and its chalked up. not worried about the 150$ or the $150 for the account either. prior to submitting to them NGC was prob my favorite place as far as collecting went. I just am not happy with how they appear to do things and if no one ever speaks out or gets mad no one ever listens or becomes aware.

I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
It was thankfully a cheap learning experience.
Never chose to do business with NGC or ANACS, but it doesn't mean I don't think they are professional and qualified. Would have no qualms sending then a token or anything PCGS does not cover.

For anything other than slow boat service, address the package with the service name (NGC Walkthrough, PCGS Express, etc.) and that should get the package opened faster.
