    Welcome to the forum.
Very cool first post, as well as, very cool first coin! Gold is not my cup of tea, but I still admire a nice old one when I see one. A Charlotte too. An old mint that not too many of us have any coin from. Can I ask why so long lurking? We need you here. Lol. Post often and esp. have fun and learn. -joey :)

Thank you Joeykoins, I am not sure why I was a lurker. I have collected coins since I was 6 years old. I am now 54 and it I finally registered. My specialty is early federal and branch mint gold. I will post many more nice ones in the future :)

welcome. i think my first post was about classic heads. :)

that reverse die. just goes to show what can happen when you try to get the absolute max out of a die.

    de-laminations
    bi-sected broken die
    re-punched/cut letters/devices
    die breaks
    die chips
    die cracks
one of the most die polished dies in all of numismatics. some serious metal was taken off that sucker.

    a fantastic teaching piece.

link to max image or at least half of one. ;)

Lance, wonderful blow up there. I also have another 38-C from the same die without the break. I have never seen a mid stage die coin with only a partial break.
