I've had PCGS Doilies not sticker. That's a headscratcher.
It sounds like they look at the coin, not the holder.
There were others that stickered I thought might not make it. This wasn’t one of them.
I sent a Connecticut in PCGS 66 that I’ve been offered $600 from Heritage that didn’t make it.
I’m beginning to wonder if a Magic 8 ball is involved.
I also own more than 50 CAC gold stickered slabs. You really have to know your grading and after 10 years of trying to learn from CAC I am only just starting to catch on.
In my view the main advantage of green and gold stickers from CAC is enhanced saleability.
Only on top tier graded coins is the price differential a big difference.
It took me 20 years!!! to find a single undergraded 1916-D dime that was worthy of a CAC gold sticker. I fine tuned my knowledge of 1916-D dimes in G-4 and G-6 grades so when I finally found one at the 2010 Boston ANA show, I realized that there might be less than a a half dozen significantly undergraded 1916-D dimes as CAC has only gold stickered 2 1916-D dimes in ALL GRADES.
My advice to you. Try to get PCGS to undergrade ( as stupid as it sounds) a new submission to possibly get a gold stickered slab and with a lower valued coin.
Only the slabs that were graded before 1995-1996 have a noticeably higher chance of ibtaining a gold sticker and that rate still does not exceed 10% of all submissions and most of them have already been submitted and gold stickered.
The remaining really old slabs are usually picked over.
