Only 1 complaint. I thought I received a 92 Topps Update Nomar PSA 10. Really it was a 1993 Topps Traded Todd Helton PSA 10. Oh well I can get corrected eventually.

That is some good stuff there. Sweet Lou 9....mmmmm

  • great stuff but gotta ask, how did that 76 brett get a 7 and why would you even send that in in the first place. clearly you know what your doing based on what the others look like but that is a head scratcher to me

Some nice hits. It's promising to see PSA is still giving out some decent grades after hearing all the horror stories in the turnaround time thread.

very familiar with this card but that 7 is almost miscut in a straight 7 holder. considering the blood bath I received on most of my pre-60 recent subs, it is nice to see some good grades on the 70's stuff. I have a lot of those in the grading queue to get back by the end of the year I hope

I had a real nice brett in that lot but the back is miscut. I sent it in as I started to see a few cards not have qualifiers on miscut 76 backs

There were 3 79s in a row that all got 4s. There appears to be a slight indention on the same spot on all 3. Could have happened in shipping or the 8 months they were at PSA.

Great sub bro ! I don't see a flaw on the Winfield or Seaver. I'd love to know what kept them out of a 10 holder (maybe slight fading). Still wish they would send some grader notes with our slabs. The 77 Dawson, 79 Bretts/Palmer are head scratchers for sure. But overall a great sub.

Nice cards for sure! What I find ironic about the Helton card that was labeled Garciaparra is that it went through 3 steps and no one saw it. The person in assembly that put the label and card in the slab, the person in QA1 that checked the grades, and the person in QA2 checking whatever they check. That is piss poor in my opinion. You can’t have a product go through three separate steps where someone should have noticed this and it still get out the door without being corrected. On top of the order taking 9 months to process. That pisses me off and it isn’t even my card.

Are there any faint spider wrinkles on the surface? I've owned a few otherwise mint 1979 Brett's that suffered that fate.

Two more came in the mail today. First one is a 3 card PSA DNA sub that I am thrilled with

Next is my mid tier 80s sub. I am hoping my top tier sub is graded by someone else. Overall it is fair. Just think they were strict on a few.

The centering in not 10 qualify on either, but especially the Seaver.

  • 19591959 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭

Looks like many of the 8's could be 9's, and some 9's , 10's (based on centering) . surprisingly only one 8.5.

Great cards. Some of those 9’s look amazing.

  • parthur1607parthur1607 Posts: 202 ✭✭✭

A year and a half ago a lot of those 9s would have been 10s.....

  • GREAT cards, rexvos. '76 baseball was the first set that I collected as a kid, so it is awesome seeing how many beautiful 9's and 8's you received.

The '78 Nolan Ryan is absolutely gorgeous but brings a tear to my eye. A friend who lived next to me also collected baseball cards, but I think his father gave him some advice on collecting for fun but also collecting the all-stars. So at the time, he always traded for Nolan Ryan and Pete Rose. I am pretty sure that I traded several of the '78 Nolan Ryan's for a Rich Dauer or Mark Belanger to complete my Orioles team set! Ahhh ... if only I had known then!

They grader clearly had no intention of giving out tens on that mid tier sub. While I agree that grading should be tough, there seems to be a lot of bias in cards coming back. Going to be a lot of inconsistency between slabs of the same card.

I think you got hosed pretty bad here. Seems to me you should have gotten several more 10's.

    Beautiful cards!

Ok I definitely agree. What gets me is the 85 Puckett went in on this sub because I believe It was a 9 on its best day due to l/r centering. The rest of the card was great so I figured it was worth sending for 8.88 per card. Just crap consistency, which makes me wonder what I am actually paying for. I did not expect 30-40 10s on this order but I certainly expected more than 4. I guess when you own the market as PSA does you do not have to be consistent or have pride in your work because they are the authority. In the past about 20 would be cracked and head back In hopes of avoiding the grading team that produced this order. That however is no longer an option. Oh well on to the next one.

I will say your 1987 Topps are mostly imperfectly centered top to bottom, but several are so close they "should" be 10's.

My bulk sub consists of mostly this year cards and I did look at about 10,000 before picking about 150 to send in.

I would say PSA likes them centered incorrectly(?) with top and bottom borders equal. I thought the sides and top borders should be the same and disregard the name box.

If I get destroyed on my sub, I won't be gumming up the works any longer gambling on a game that is seemingly impossible to win.
