I have this award presented to a prominent member of our local coin club many years ago. During the latter years of his life I drove him to the club meetings. After he passed his family sold it to me.

Very nice, silver and gold. Not sure what size it is though. Looks like it may hold about six or eight ounces. Fill with wine and toast your friend. Cheers, RickO

Sorry, forgot something for scale. Here it is next to a shoe horn. Will hold a stiff shot at best.

Good idea, but he did not drink. It is full of memories though.

Knowing my two hobbies are coins and drinking fine wine, my late wife bought me an absolutely wonderful gift about 20 years or so ago - she bought a Greek coin with Dionysus on the obverse. He's the ancient Greek God of Wine (his Roman name was Baccus). Hercules is on the reverse. It's about the size of a Half Dollar. She then had a jeweler make a holder, made with 14K gold designed as grape leaves, and a bunch of small round amethyst jewels looking like grapes, with a nice gold chain. So when we share a very special bottle of wine with friends, we present the bottle with the chain around the neck of the wine bottle, "blessing" the wine inside!

Have we ever figured out what those stacks of coins with the square hole were used for?

A year or two ago I picked up on clearance at Lowe's a brass "wrench" made for using on stoves, if I recall. I bought it because I tnought it was a modern version of those coins. I think it was used to turn the gas on/off, for example.

Or maybe for cast iron radiators, to turn the water valve?

If I come across it I will post a pic and measurement of the square hole.

@BustDMs that's a nice coin silver and gold dish. My wife got me this a few years back. It's been made in to a silver DÉPOSÉ loupe and silver chain.

My feet are still thanking me to this day when I made the choice to stop wearing hard soled shoes decades ago. Granted I still have a few pair for the rare occasion I truly need to dress formal.
