Best book on Buffalo Nickels?

I think I've decided to pick up a single Buffalo Nickle and maybe a proof. What book would give me the most bang for my eBay bucks? I can always go for a Red book on the series. I was hoping someone may have a more in depth recommendation. Thanks

Are you into varieties within that series or are you looking for a general information?
I'm mostly into seated dimes. In that series I hunt the varieties. I could see myself getting into nickel varieties
For doubled dies and such "The Authoritative Guide on Buffalo Nickels" that I co-authored with John Wexler and Kevin Flynn is a good, although somewhat outdated, work on doubled dies, RPMs, and OMMs.
If I recall correctly, David Lange wrote a very nice book about the series.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
There are quite a few books on buffalo nickels another series I collect...I must have 5 references on this series....all out of print, and outdated as far as new discoveries.
I suggest for general reference about the series the Whitman book on Buffalos and Jefferson nickels.
Why? Its probably the most up to date , it gives you the strike information on each year and mint mark.
Other than that..google is your friend in hunting down any on line reference materal.
The 1938 D date and mm offers alot to someone who wants a nice coin for their type set.
The D/D D/D/D and the omm D/S offer a little more variety spice to the date and mm.
These can be found in Bu/unc specimens at a cost that wont break your budget.
If you either like bright specimens or those of color again the 38 D is a crowd pleaser.
The whitman book isnt a bank breaker either...it offers great insite to the U.S. 5 cent pc.
From the teens to present date.
I hope this helps you in your decision, any other questions please ask...buffalos are fun and doable for most in lower to mid grades.

Thanks for the responses. I might even have a Whitman book lying around from a random FUN buy.
Buffalo nickels are a great series and a beautiful coin. Good idea to get a reference book...Those noted above provide excellent information. Cheers, RickO
The 1938d gets little respect, but might be my favorite coin.
You can get an awesome strike and high grade MS67 for little outlay.

I'm not sure who the go to Buffalo dealers are yet. I do see that Angel Dee has a nice selection.
That's one date which worn coins are vastly outnumbered by uncirculated coins.
I have a set of all 38 D buffalos D D/D D/D/D D/S D/D/S
The 38 great date to collect as well th 37 D

If you are only looking for a couple and high end, I recommend Legend Rare Coins Regency Auctions
the nickels at their next one ->

Two books that you MUST have if you really want to study the series are"
"The Authoritative Guide on Buffalo Nickels" for the varieties.
The David Lange books with a date and mint write up for each issue.
The references are a little dated, but believe me, their info will last forever (and so will your study).
