Is this possibly a RPM?

1870 CC Seated Liberty Dollar
obv. Die 2, rev. Die C.
Do you think the 2nd C (right C) of the MM is repunched? I've only done a little online research on this, and I could find no reference to this possibility. For curiosity reasons, I'm looking for opinions or references. Thank you.

    Looks more like die damage.

    Is there a known RPM?

I have not found any listing for a RPM.

That looks like repunching to me. Weren't the two C's punched separately, hence why the second C is sometimes higher or lower than the other?

That looks like a die chip to me.... It seems separate from the full C... and would be at too sharp an angle to be the serif of an under C... IMO... Cheers, RickO

The strong additional 'serif' suggests a die chip to me also. However, there appears to be some doubling over the top of the 'O'. So I remain undecided until further photos, etc. may give additional info.

Thank you for the feedback! The extra "serif" angle was a puzzle piece that didn't quite fit to me. Then the apparent die abrasion work inside the loop of the C from about 6 to 9 o-clock may have fit, along with the doubling over the top of the C. I wish John Bordner was still around on this one. Here are a couple more photos.

Thanks for the additional photos! IMO I do think it has possibilities of being a repunched mintmark. And on additional thought, the extra 'serif' has sharper well defined angled corners and edges... die chips usually seem to be less defined and more rounded, and irrregular. For me, it would be a keeper to keep studying.

Lookup at the primary strike if it were an RPM the angle of the point of the primary C is wrong. While interesting I can not say yes at this point.

Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
