So, what do you do if the Post Office tracking shows "delivered", but it's not in your mailbox?

ZoidMeisterZoidMeister Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was supposed to have two packages delivered today from Ron Landis Studios. Two separate tracking numbers. Both show as "DELIVERED" but only ONE package was in the mail box.

Business box, not residential. The package that did arrive was ripped open, but the contents were still inside. The missing package, mailed on the same day, to the same address - not there.

WTF? What do I do now?

Post Office says they did their job. NOT!

I'm so pizzed off I could spit. These are irreplaceable, one of a kind, historical items.

What do I do???

I had that happen recently for an expensive coin. Showed delivered to PO Box, but was not there. Took them a lot of searching, but they finally found it on a shelf somewhere. Good luck!

Cry. I had that happen to me several years ago. The package was for $100 worth of N-Gauge train wheelsets. I talked to the postmaster, he sail he could do nothing. It did no good that it was insured, because the Post Office said it was delivered. I appealed. It was denied. Finally I had to give up. Package never did arrive.

Several years ago the scanners didn't have GPS. They do now.

I like the GPS scanner thing, did not know that. I would at least take the tracking number to the USPS and ask specifically. They have more in house data that is tracked that is not available on the website. If that does not work then I might ask for a postal inspector since I would suspect one of the local employees of theft...

  • ZoidMeisterZoidMeister Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

I tried calling the "usual numbers" and even tried reporting it as a "lost package."

No one answers the local or 800 numbers that used to get answered, and the "lost package" web page is useless. It says I cannot claim it as a lost package because it was "delivered."

One of the issues that I am dealing with is that I work in a 12 story building. If the azzhat put the package in the wrong box, I am at the mercy of the honesty of the other 60 businesses in this building, and half of the building is empty since COVID started. Could be in a box that hasn't been opened in months.

This happened to me about a month ago. I immediately filed a case on the USPS website. They responded quickly and said they would look into it. Lo and behold the item showed up the next day. Maybe it was just a mistake by the carrier. I hope you have a similar positive result

Yes, they have more info that is available on the website including where it was scanned delivered and who scanned it. The GPS info won't be given to you because they don't want people knocking on other peoples doors. A carrier or supervisor will be sent to try to retrieve the package.

I had that same thing happen with my V75 AGE from the Mint. Tracking showed it was delivered and I had nothing in my PO Box. I asked the lady working if it accidentally made its way into one of the boxes close to mine. She checked the neighboring boxes and couldn’t find it. Did some searching and she found it sitting in the back. That would have been a tough one to lose that way. If it makes it’s way into someone else’s box you just have to hope they are honest I guess.

So my next question is: Should I report this to Landis Studios, the shipper of the items?

I view the two missing pieces as irreplaceable, the cash paid not withstanding. I mean, if these were a couple of AU 1921 Morgan Dollars, no big deal. there are thousands of others out there for sale.

I don't think these can ever be replaced, especially with the toning exhibited on them.

True story. This happened to me last year. The GPS showed my parcel was delivered two houses away from me. I had to go knock on my neighbor’s door and ask them for it. After some rummaging around they found it. They had opened the package (!) but fortunately the contents (coins) were intact. Whew!

My "problem" is that my GPS locator is a 12 story building with 60+ businesses in it (between 3 and 8 offices per floor).

GPS coordinates isn't going to help me much I think.

I find it best to immediately discuss it with my mailman while it's still fresh in his mind. In your non residential case it likely went to a wrong, nearby mailbox. I would check with other business in the building.

That makes sense, but the boxes don't bear the business information, just sequential numbers. These are numbered #1 through #90. We are #18 with #17 and #19 next to our box, but #18 is on the 5th floor. No idea where in the building #17 and #19 are. Could be anywhere across the 12 floors. I'll have to catch the Postal folks while they are in the building and ask. They show up really anywhere between 1:00pm and 7:00pm.

Several years ago I had a package shown as delivered. It was not delivered to me. They found it 3 days later in another P.O. Box. It was a National Bank Note with a known population of two. I was worried sick for the 3 days.

Im surprised you had no luck with the USPS website, It worked well for me. I had also contacted Great Collections who were looking into it on their end but as i said luckily it showed up the next day. There may be cameras in the mailbox area? Of course thats a whole nother ball of wax which may involve police etc.

It's possible that both packages went in the wrong box and the recipient didn't like what he found in the first one he opened so he put it in the correct box while keeping the second one he opened. Normally USPS will not deliver an opened package without including some type of notification/sticker on damaged condition of package.

If that happened to me at the post office I go to the first thing I would have to do is brush up on my foreign language skills and then I would talk to a postal employee and try to get to the bottom of the situation.

I saw the Postal dude leaving the building when I pulled in from my morning meetings. Checked the box. Had other deliveries, but no sign of the missing Landis Studios shipment.

The other package being "ripped open" is quite suspect. My worry would be someone else broke into the box or has access somehow. Notify the building security: especially if you aren't certain about surveillance footage retention and because they might have other reports of problems.

I had this happen with a coin delivery to my PO Box around 10 years ago that showed delivered but wasn’t delivered to my box. Package never turned up despite multiple return trips and a formal postal inspector complaint filed, and I lost my case with eBay (delivery confirmation but no signature confirmation).

Hoping that you end up with a better outcome! I think people are generally honest, and perhaps more so in a business context, so even if is trapped in a neighboring box I think the chances that the package eventually finds it’s way back to you are pretty decent.

Went to PO today expecting three packages. Yellow card in box said they had four packages, one large. Went to counter and gave clerk the card and my name and box number. She went in back and came out with the three I was expecting plus a large one. She scanned all four as delivered and gave them to me. The three were OK, but the large was addressed to a Thomas Riley at a different box number. Fortunately I was curious and looked at the box before leaving the counter and handed it back.

This is frickin unbelievable and getting worse. Today my tracking numbers showed two deliveries from the same sender arriving on the same day. Both show "delivered," only one package in the box, the cheaper and lighter of the two.

Not from Landis but an Ebay seller. Won two auctions a few hours apart. Paid separately. The seller shipped separately.

Spent most of the afternoon calling the local Post Office - no answer on a line that always got answered a year ago.

Makes me think the delivery guy noticed these were from the same shipper and figured that I would think they should have been shipped together. Maybe planning on me complaining to the shipper except I have two tracking numbers and one item never arrived.

This is really pizzing me off.

    with package #2 . . . . . . . . .

"Package Delivered" last Friday, but somehow, yesterday, they decided to "return it to the sender" right about the time I filed a NON-DELIVERY COMPLAINT!

    .

  • Late last year USPS delivered an insured parcel to the wrong address in my condo complex and let someone else sign my name to receive it. That was a first. I went around knocking on many doors and no one admitted receiving it. I thought that was it but someone apparently got cold feet and the parcel mysteriously appeared on my porch sometime after 11pm that night. Fortunately I had to go out to my garage at that time and found it. It wasn’t a coin but another one of a kind collectible that wouldn’t have been replaceable.

    .

I do both names when I order, but I have no control over how the shipper configures the label, and that was part of the problem in this case.

Secondly, my "neighborhood" has had a rash of issues with hood rats following delivery trucks around making every day like Christmas for them. Our neighborhood Police Watch committee has even made the recommendation to have packages go to workplaces if that's viable.

Our little homeslice of single family houses used to be in a rural setting 20 years ago when we moved here. Now it's surrounded by high density rental complexes. Multiple large 5 to 10 acre single home properties now have dozens and dozens of rental units on them.

It's become "great sport" at the end of each month for hoards to pick through the piles of evicted tenants stuff before the owners of the stuff can arrange transport.

50% of my mail that even remotely looks like a birthday card is opened by the time I get home and to the mailbox.

And I never see the same Postal delivery person at my office building twice. They enter and leave through a locked door off the loading dock. Delivery times vary and I might only "see them" twice a year, usually when there's been a problem.

    My "hood" . . . .
