Is registered mail slower than usual right now?

Sent a package to CAC 3 and a half weeks ago. There has been no update since it has departed denver. Whats the longest you have seen a registered package take?

EVERYTHING has been a mess with the mail recently. I had to give up on a letter with a check in it that I sent to a coin dealer. I finally had to bite the bullet and pay the extra 3% to pay for the items with a credit card. The letter finally got to the dealer three and half weeks after I mailed it. It took four weeks for a birthday card to get from Florida to Pennsylvania.

Registered Mail is a special case because of the way it's handled. It has to be stamped has it moves through the system. So, yes, you might expect it to be slow. Good luck!

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Yes, it’s been slower for some time. The USPS has been having issues left and right. One problem with registered in particular is only qualified people can handle the package. So if the person(s) at a particular post office who handles registered mail is too busy or on vacation it’ll sit there until they can get to it.

I’ve had a package take three weeks to go 400 miles. Luck of the draw sometimes.

I just had a registered mailed from Chicago on a Thursday get to the PO on the east coast ready for pickup on the following Tuesday. Surprisingly fast.

This USPS thing is getting old. I have an express mail shipment from our hosts that was mailed the 11th. Guess what, It's still sitting there and hasn't moved. :s

It seems very spotty for all classes. Some get there 2-3 days and some 3-4 weeks.

I have a regular old package that has been sitting at the distribution center, in transit to my local, for 4 days now. Both POs are 3 miles from my house. I'd go get it if I could.

I had a Registered Mail package take 17 days to get from New York to Oklahoma back in 2004. Same old, same old.....

This year, My very limited experience (6 parcels) mailing from NY/MA shows registered mail is a bit quicker than years past.

three weeks since an update indicates it is stuck somewhere. Start an inquiry either on line or over the phone. This seems to get things moving - branches have to start answering questions. Probably stuffed in a USPS safe and forgotten about. Remind them. Works for me.

All incompetence and dilatory laziness can be blamed on COVID now.

Oddly, this has been my experience as well during Covid. Everything but Registered has been slower with Registered being faster. Last package from central OH to CAC in NJ arrived in just over 4 days and returned in 6 days. Usually it is an 8 to 10 day process each way.

Sometimes I see it move slowly, rarely does it move even with priority mail attached to it. I have been using priority 3 day with insurance/signature when sending my coins for grading. Moves faster and knock on wood, no issues. GL

Inquiring does help as previously posted, 3 weeks is super slow even for registered. Definitely open a lost package claim

Maybe it's you constant complainers. I've sent and received trackable mail from all parts of the country since covidemic struck and I've rarely had anything more than 2 days late. No doubt it's an issue with members of the workforce out, but you'd think a few others could roll up their sleeves.

To my knowledge, priority mail attached to registered, has no impact on the speed of the latter.

100% agree. Priority for registered only has to do with weight. It does absolutely nothing to impact the speed of movement.

i had sensitive docs 'lost' in the registered mail system for a month (shipped 11-Feb...arrived on 11-Mar). poor communication from the post office...i could write a book on how awful this transaction was

I shouldve bought a plane ticket and couriered the package myself

Just sent a submission from San Jose registered.
It spent 3 days in San Francisco (two and a half days too many if you’ve been there lately), then to LA, Santa Ana to Irvine in two days.
Roundly 6 days within the state 400 miles.
    I call that a win.

3 weeks . Was stuck in a major USPS depot for 8 days with no movement . Had to wait 2 weeks before i could put a trace on package . After trace was put USPS apparently told the depot to get my package out of the locked box and moving . I received it a few days later .

As stated adding Priority usually has no bearing on how fast you will receive your package .

I could be wrong, but IIRC over a certain distance which was said to be 600 miles, priority mail goes by air instead of ground. If I ship a package from Ames to either coast on a Friday or Saturday it almost always gets delivered on Monday and sometimes on Tuesday. Maybe it's good luck with connecting flights.

Sometimes tracking for registered will say departed Des Moines 8:00 am. That vehicle makes a bunch of different stops in various places along the way so it usually doesn't get here until maybe 4 pm. Most likely that way at other major hubs.

Much will depend on whether or not your mail goes through a hub where the unions are slowing down work because they're not getting enough overtime for their satisfaction. Trucking companies are hesitant to serve them because they sit idle in the docks for hours waiting for their shipment.

Direct from the USPS website FAQ page "What is Registered Mail?"

Registered Mail (domestic and international) service and Registered Mail Restricted Delivery service alone cannot be tracked through the mailstream. Updated scans are not provided as the piece is processed from facility to facility.

    Just sayin'.
