I can only blame Zoins for this purchase!

@Zoins posted this a few weeks back. I had the opportunity on Instagram to buy one last year but passed on it.
But after seeing his thread I just had to go looking for one!
.
Warning.....looking into this dudes eyes can give you a crazy feeling. But you get a truck load of good luck
Have no clue as to who and when this was made.

Awesome! It reminds me of the film Le Voyage Dans la Lun (A Trip to the Moon) by Georges Méliès (1902)
Or also by him "La lune à un mètre," in 1898

Wow! That's a beautiful specimen Stef! Congrats!
That is very cool.... I like that token. Weird looking dude...but makes me chuckle. Cheers, RickO
The makers logo is below the bow but I can't make it out, AMD Co? I bet @tokenpro knows better. Peace Roy

To me it looks like a large C with AMD / Co inside but I am not familiar with that signature or an AMD Co. as well. It puzzled me enough that I got in touch with good friend Dave Schenkman who keeps the best master list of die sinkers that I know but he had nothing on this signature either.
Both of these dies are stock dies that were made by Schwaab Stamp & Stencil Co. of Milwaukee and were used as reverses on a number of storecards made by Schwaab S. & S.. Schwaab also used the Aint It Hell reverse on one of their own die sinker advertising storecards. Greenduck of Chicago produced a very similar die but with proper English -- It's Hell To Be Poor around a similar face. I believe that both are Depression Era issues as the themes, die work & fabric all fit that period.
My only guess on the C-AMD Co. signature is that the company had Schwaab produce the tokens and C-AMD Co. tried to market them à la the Billiken tokens from earlier in the last century but I don't even have much faith in that theory.
Cool!
