I'm not a Morgan dollar fan, but that one is a looker. If I were buying that coin, my reaction to the color premium would be similar to food poisoning.
Those toned Morgans like that one are just too outrageous for my taste....... but I can appreciate the appeal they have for those who collect them. Actually, I probably like them but there's something telling me to stay away from them.......so I don't get hooked on them! 🙈
Although I'm still convinced these happened from rats urinating on the mint bags
If it's rats in the US Mint facilities and the coins were in a US Mint bag, then it's ok
Rat (and people) urine is one of the main ingredients in faking toning on coins. With the current craze of everyone paying a premium on toned coins, am looking into digging out my Chemistry set and/or moving my coins into the bathroom!
Personally, having created toning coins in the past, mainly by accident, I stay away from them unless they look like light natural toning. But, everyone has their preferences and someone has to buy them or else they just get melted down or cleaned.

I assure you that the “current craze” has been pretty constant for at least the last 20+ years. Truly gorgeous NT toned coins like this, coupled with the gem+++ grade, aren’t losing their very large collectors’ base anytime soon.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments and feedback.
Toners are an acquired taste and I tend to find people either love them and are willing to pay a premium or wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Interesting juxtaposition.

Who’s to say it’s not an ingredient for real toning either?

I’m never disappointed when you post your coins! Another stunner!
I was wondering if you might be watching that one ........... ⭐️⭐️
Great coin! Luster bomb with gorgeous tones. It appeared to be the toner highlight of the sale.
I nearly bid on the 81-S 63+ toner .... but it just crept past the $ where I was comfortable.
Pretty!

But, to pay a premium? Nada chance!

Thought you may be on this one also SeattleSlammer. I think it may be time to slow down on the toner collection.
