Another friendly discussion between myself and some friends and need a tie breaker of sorts. In your opinion, what do you think these 2 barber dimes grade? Added better pictures (I think atleast) down a few posts

For what it's worth I said
1916 - ms62
1893 - ms62 (details)

Impossible to tell with these photos. I can’t evaluate the luster, and the photos give the surfaces a strange grainy look.

The 1893 looks like a cleaned AU example to me and I don't think the pictures of the 1916 allow for meaningful grade guesses.

Also, it would have been better to have shown the reverse of each coin after each obverse.

1916 looks MS62 or so. The 1893 looks cleaned and artificially toned.

Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Based on the new photos, I like the 1916 and agree with @MFeld's assessment at MS63.

The 1893 appears to have been cleaned and probably artificially retoned in an effort to hide the cleaning. The scratches on the portrait also look like an issue.

The 1893 almost looks like a proof. It's not, yet the fields have proof characteristics.
