No such thing as a stupid question, eh? An all-time favorite eBay email...
I was just reminded of this absolute gem that came in a number of years ago. It ranks as one of the best emails I've ever gotten on eBay.
Question received: "I collect shipwreck coins. Does the "Grosvenor" counterstamp indicate that this coin came from the East Indiaman shipwreck of the GROSVENOR of 1782?"
Item in question: 1814 Great Britain 1 Shilling, 6 Pence bank token with "Grosvenor" counterstamp

That damn time machine mucking things up again.
I really wish the time travelers would quit losing their pocket change.
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
there are post dated checks
After countless hours of research, I came to the conclusion that there was just no way to be sure
Somebody asked about a $1.49 baseball card I had listed, packing, shipping, why I charged $1.40 for PWE
Told him stamp was 71 cents, penny sleeve, two toploaders, etc cost gets me close to $1.40... it was PWE but wasn't free shipping.
Said that I could do a bubble mailer for $3.50..... no, no, no PWE was fine.
Okay he says, and doesn't buy the card during the 7 day auction.
Asks me a week later to relist.
Relist BIN at $1.99 and send him a heads up... he replies that I went up from $1.49 to $1.99
Hell... I don't know.
Before I get a chance to knock off .50 cents somebody else buys the card.
Guess I lost a customer.

All that rigmaroll for 2 Bucks.

Somebody was in the coin shop one time thinking about selling something but really heming and hawing because we would have to give him a check instead of the cash he wanted because of the amount.
After several questions he asked me:
"Do you know what bank your checks are drawn on?"
I replied:
"Yes."
@airplanenut .... Now THAT is funny..... I do understand how dealing with the public produces some strange interchanges... And I mean beyond technical points that many would not understand (such as your situation). The one's that really bother me, is when I am patient enough to clearly explain something like that... some are still skeptical.... For those individuals, logic and reason are strangers. Cheers, RickO
Not a stupid question at all. It was common for ill-fated ships to counterstamp coins with their name before embarking on their final voyage.
Is that the famed Spielberg Specimen???!!!
Maybe the James Cameron specimen

Well of course I was just trying to convey the question my eBay guy would have asked. And, maybe, perhaps, also show off my very limited knowledge of cinema.
When we list a silver piece, we include 'silver' in the title. Twice this week, two different buyers: 'Is this made of silver'? and 'What is the coin made of?'
The answer was literally in the title in both cases

Maybe he thought you were referring to the color.
"No such thing as a stupid question, eh?" There a millions of stupid questions, I ask them all the time. That is just something you say to kids, so you don't hurt their feelings.
I would love to have an authentic 1913 Liberty Nickel with a fake Titanic counterstamp, just to screw with people. Hoping to work something out with @tradedollarnut .

I’ve found that since mobile devices have taken the lions share of eBay purchases. eBay does not list all the item description unless you click show more, especially if you have embedded html.
Most of my responses are a cut and copy from a document on my desktop.
If using a mobile device, click the “show more” text under item description for auction specifics.
