Which coin design can you just not warm up to?

For me, it's the shield nickel. In almost sixty years of collecting, I have only ever owned one. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. For some reason or other it just doesn't appeal to me.
It was a toss-up between it and the 2¢ piece.

What don't you like about the James Barton Longacre coins?
I wish I could put my finger on it, but I just can't seem to appreciate them.

For me, the Sac. dollars. I have a completed album, just because I need a place to put them when I buy mint & proof sets.
I always wondered why they put Truman on the Roosevelt dime.

For me, the coin I just do not care for, is the SBA.... Close behind would be the prezzie bucks. Cheers, RickO
That 2c piece is just stunning! About the prettiest I've ever seen. And on a small motto to boot!
As far as a coin I can't warm up to it has to be the Presidential dollars. They remind me of the gas station junk from 50+ years ago.
Quite a lot of designs don’t really resonate with me: Roosies, Franklins, any dollar after the Peace series, Barbers, and most commemoratives past or present.

OOOOH! OOOOH! I want to change to what @ricko said!
Funny that I didn't even consider modern stuff.

Both coins the OP mentions have that shield on the obverse, which does seem very different from other US coin designs. I was thinking about the nearly unique motif as I pushed my first 2c into a type set album just last night. Does the choice of the shield design have anything to do with the Civil War?
Those two Longacre coins are awesome, especially seen next to each other. I wonder what design decisions occurred between the 2-center's shield and the nickel's. On the 5-cent, the arrows are laid to rest. The motto ribbon has been pulled back to reveal a cross. I never saw these differences before, and I betcha they weren't accidents.
I will start with the observation:
In the matter of taste there is no dispute.
And having just shared that thought, sometimes its not about the design, but the effort and craftsmanship that goes into the final product. I can understand that some are not inspired by the Shield Nickel, but at least there is a level of craftsmanship that can be appreciated for the time.
Compare the effort that went into the Shield Nickel or the Two Cent piece and they are a smashing success in contract to the Presidential dollar series. The entire series lacks craftsmanship and an effort to produce an end product that will withstand the test of time in terms of artist merit and design. Instead, what we have is a reminder that the quality work of the greats... St. Gaudens, Weinman, MacNeil and Fraser are gone and unable to be replicated in the age of mass production. The chiseled look that makes a compelling and timeless statement is simply no longer valued as it once was. Depth and warmth verse the convenience of what exists today. It really is not progress in terms of what really matters.

The reverses of the Lincoln Memorial Cent and the Jefferson nickel.
At least you can say they have been trying in recent years.

Morgan Dollar.
I just think the coin is all-around ugly. From the portrait of Liberty to the Eagle on the reverse. It just isn't attractive.
Especially when you look at the circulating coinage from other countries. The majority of their designs are lovely, then you look at the Morgan and its...Yeesh.
There are coin designs I don't prioritize, like Morgan's, Peace, Washington quarters. Sac's, etc. but I appreciate quality examples of every design.
Sac Dollars, which is kind of odd because my other hobby (obsession?) is collecting Native American artifacts, etc. I actually met (I was in the same room if that counts as met) the young lady who was the model for the design. I didn't think she looked anything like her depiction on the coin. Oh, well.
Nickel three cent coins. I absolutely love three cent silvers, but can't stand the 3CN. I have one in my type set, and I was hard pressed to buy it even though I needed an example.
I like toners so coins that don't tone easily can be appreciated but less so since the non-toned looks tend to be common.
It can be difficult to find toned 3 cent and 5 cent nickels, but for some reason Buffalo and Jefferson nickels can tone quite well. Any reason for that or am I not looking at the right coins?

I like post-1964 issues mostly because they are an inexpensive way to keep busy with the collection and also to be able to handle and study lots coins for grading etc., but I do tend to agree with you about Morgan's. However, a whole lot of collectors love Morgan's so there must be something about them. Maybe I'm just missing it.
SBA’s.
One of my least favorites are Washington Quarters, I’m not sure why. I still like them, but not as much as all of the rest of them. I like some of the state quarters and some of the other new designs, I’m talking about the regular ones 1932 up to the state quarters.
Mr_Spud
I've warmed up some over the years to the Seated Liberty issues. Some individual coins are really fantastic, but honestly - one design for virtually everything in circulation? What were they thinking?
The reverse of the silver eagle.. i’m so glad they’re replacing it!
Most coins since Buffs, Walkers and Mercs. No class, style nor quality of design.

Peace Dollar.... I have yet to own one. Always poorly struck compared to other denominations. The high points seem to be ripe for bag marks. Very rarely do you see an obverse as nice as the reverse or vice versa. Would have loved to see this issue in a proof coin. I like the design, just not the end product.
..... and did I mention I've yet to see one beautifully toned. Not one.
Ever want to sell that Kennedy half in PF68 I sold you a year ago let me know...

All of the "portrait" coins except the cent. 3cN for sure.
Too many for me to name. Pretty much all currently US circulating coinage for starters. From this group, it's easier for me to list those I like (somewhat) than those I do not.
"Gas station junk..."
You nailed it!
The Barber series for me. Like a radish I would think I should love them. I try a radish every year. They are cool looking and crisp but no bueno when I bite into them. Same with Barbers for me. I consider one every once and awhile and then I spit it out ( not literally). Can't do it
The odd thing is I love horseradish

Anthony Dollar.
I'm with Justacommeman - couldn't have said it better!
I used to feel that way about Barbers, but now, I think it would be cool to have a nice MS Half type example. The reason being is, because they wore so smooth and were used, so heavily in commerce, that I can appreciate one in choice condition. However, they will never be anywhere near my favorite.

Well I might be thrown off the boards for saying this - Walking Liberty half dollar and St. Gaudens double eagle. Sure I should like them, sure they are great art for the time. But. No. (Sorry).

Are the proofs of these series on your radar? I’ve seen some very beautifully toned 3 cent nickels, in particular.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Fat head half eagles. Lady Liberty looks like a cage fighter. Yes I would live to own a nice example, but don’t care for the artistry on the portrait.
Liberty Seated Half Dimes
The Chain Cent obverse. Awesome coin, but don’t like the artistry.
3CN - boring design, dull appearance. Ike dollars profiling a massive cranium.
The newer obverse of the Jefferson nickel looks like Don Imus.
Roosevelt dime obverse. I never knew who that was as a child.
I don't really like the repetitiveness of the Barber design across three denominations.
Presidential dollars in general, though I like the Statue of Liberty on the reverse.

I dislike all Barbers and Morgans. Radishes are okay.

What was the "gas station junk"? 50+ years ago would be a smidge before my time.
I don't care for Morgans - own one or two for type only.
Don't care at all for all things Barber - I think I own one cull half dollar in the silver pile.
And I do like radishes.......the colder and crisper the better.

I am an old geezer. Old enough to remember them well. I still have two sets of the antique car coins in bronze left to me by a friend.
The Morgan Dollar, or rubber chicken. I only have two and they came with a lot containing a coin I needed. So at some point I'll trade or sell them.
Roosevelt dimes. Look at the marvelous design they replaced.
Pretty much any coin with a president on the obverse. SEMPER FI!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.
Yeah, and I can remember lobbying my father to get the car filled up at Shell so I could get the tokens.
That’s awesome. I just bought some of the tokens off eBay. I’ve been considering building a state set.
Wow, I think every denomination is mentioned. Lol Yeah, for me it's the one coin that I see the most. Esp when I do my CRH. The dreaded New Shield Cent. I'm sorry, whenever I open a roll to hunt, the first thing I do is go through the roll to specifically look for any Shields than toss them quickly into the searched jar. Most of the time, half of the roll is the Shield Cent.
