Hall Of The Very Good thread

Almost-Hall, Hall of the very good players don't always get their due recognition.
A big portion of my collection falls in this category.
Part speculation, mainly collecting players that were considered one of the best of their generation and era.
Not the greatest...just good and very good!
Let's save the HOF debate for the other threads.
Kudos to almost-hall players! Bring out your favorites...from any sport!
Topping my favorite list of course is Dick Allen...
hopefully is in the Hall 2022

Just had this one arrive today...
I collect Steve Garvey, Dave Concepcion, and Orel Hershiser. I guess most of my collection fits into this category.
Dale, Dewey, Reggie. Decent trio of players.
Harold Baines
Cards of a couple of guys already mentioned.

Also collecting Andre Tippett, Patriots Greats' RCs, Dwight Evans, 1964 Venezuelan Topps, 1974 Topps Red Sox
Majority of my collection is football, so kinda want to show 3 HOVG types. Bennett could do it all. Fulcher was a monster. Andrews knee injury in ' 84 was the first injury that devastated me as a fan. He was really special.
I guess I don't understand the thread. Are we looking for players like Bobby Grich who were elite, but for some reason never got close to a second appearance on the HoF ballot, or like Jim Kaat who was good, not very good, but hung around on the ballot for 15 years?
Louisiana Lightning!
User gets to define almost-hall class.
I would put kaat in this category for his longevity racking up 283 wins.
Veteran committee candidates also work well like Dick allen.

El Tiante as well!
Always loved watching El Tiante turn toward center field before delivering his usual filthy pitches.

Garvey was truly a GREAT player and Mattingly is my all-time favorite. Who knows how special Donnie Baseball could have been if not for the back problems.

The NL Mattingly !
Somebody say El Tiante?

OK, you've got me curious. What does 'NL' represent? Of course, I realize it wouldn't be 'National League' in this case. Just not sure what the abbreviation stands for.
Let's make sure Scott Rolen appears in the correct thread this time too.
He was referring to Hernandez as “the NL (counterpart to) Mattingly.”
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

We're putting together a pretty good team here.

In all of baseball, only around 200 people with over 1000 games under their ML belt have hit .300 lifetime I believe.
One of my favorite Dodger players is Pedro Guerrero.
He played 15 ML seasons - a quality utility player - 215 HR's - not shabby - so a power hitter IMO.
He played in 5 All-star games, was the 1981 WS MVP, 1982 Silver Slugger...
Thought for sure this guy was a HOFer but ended up in the HOVG!

Joins Mattingly in "Hall of Career Derailed by Injury"? Also (more extreme injuries) Munson and Clemente, though Clemente was already over the line.
Jeff Kent
Will Clark
Tim Hudson
Graig Nettles
This guy.

Dwight Evans signature is beautiful. Too bad the players today don’t take pride in theirs.

The straw man! An 80s icon
Kicking myself for not snagging 83 TT when it was 100 bucks
I have been looking at his 95 Bowman’s Best rookie.. apparently people consider him a top tier HOF already by what they pay for that card. I don’t get it.

IDK, Kingman could prolly have a corner in the Hall for his mammoth HRs.
In the mean time, he's in our HOVG.
Youtube: Tommy Lasorda on Dave Kingman (the uncensored would be your best version)
I have a soft spot for Kong as a lifelong Met fan, but I don’t see him as on the same level as most of the players mentioned in this thread.
Roger Maris and Tommy Nobis for us old guys. Mabe Rocky Colavito also. His cards were on fire.

6X AS and a 4X GG. Slash line of .299/.372/.423. Almost 2,500 hits over 1,500 runs and over 600 steals.
Paul Maul got it right. I just view the two of those players as highly similar. Great hitters, great fielders, and team leaders. Plus they both had mustaches. LOL
Basketball one.

Too lazy to post a card, but Wendel Clark comes to mind. Was an amazing combo - could beat down almost anyone in the league and had serious talent. Could take over a game. Would have been an easy 500 goal guy if he ever played a full season. Those early 90s Leafs playoffs series, he was nuts:

Here's my autographed Hall of Very Good
Gradishar does not belong in this thread. He belongs in the Hall of Fame thread. There is no NFL retired eligible player that deserved the hall more than Gradishar.
Gino Cappelletti. #1 all time scorer in AFL history and the 1964 AFL MVP.

I think that's true of quite a few of the players in this thread, from Allen in the first post to Cappelletti in the last.
