Circulated 2019 and 2020 S Clad Quarters; are they worth holding on to?

I've been finding these in rolls while searching for "W"s. To be clear, they are clad, not proof.

Any thoughts on if they are worth holding on to? Do they have any sale or trade value potential?

    it depends

If they are free of rub and are good quality, keep them.

if they are free of rub and you don't mind selling each for $1.75 - $2.50 on ebay then keep them to sell. perhaps if you have a date set you could sell them that way.

I'm guessing there are at least a million per. it's up to you regarding the decision based upon mintage numbers.

Are they worth that much? It seems to be near the high end for uncirculated quarters.

Whoever put them into circulation figured they weren't worth saving when they were new. ;)

I have seen a few in change... have a couple in my quarter jar I believe. Mostly I just spent them. Cheers, RickO

I would save them just because I like seeing that little S on them.

I do not roll hunt but the only S quarters that I have run across have been proofs, not one unc have I seen yet.

I see no present or future sale, or trade value, in these cupronickel coins. Way too common and no silver content.

Just look at the value, or lack thereof, of the uncirculated rolls of state quarters.

Spend them, or throw them in a can and save them.

This is very misleading. You are talking about P&D quarters not the S quarters which were only available in sets. S quarter mintages were around 1 million not 1 billion like the state quarters you reference.

This is one of those things that you might someday get $15 per roll for when someone runs a promo.

They'll always be worth face value, so there is no harm in setting them aside.

You'll also never get rich on them - unless you have a LOT - so there is also no harm in recirculating them.

You are correct. I did not see that we were just talking about S mint marks. I thought we were talking about the P and D. My apologies. My reply above will be deleted. Thank you.

I find an S quarter occasionally during my hunt for the W. They are cool to look at and the S is always a nice change of pace. Depending on the condition I save them or throw them back in the roll.😂🤣

My experience is no one really wants them for trades unfortunately 😪

I have gone through thousands of dollars of quarters and I’ve only found two.

I was looking for a couple bags of bats but was too late to the show. I have looked around and I don't see them available. Supposedly there were 4,236 bags bought. My plan was going to high-grade the best and spend the rest. I can see how the lower grade quarters end up in circulation.

I actually like the S quarters as a novelty with undetermined future interest.

But I would want a proper collection of very decent mint state examples.

I think that's correct. I didn't buy any of those.

I had to spend $30 on a Dansco album just for those suckers! And on top of that, the first year of the program didn’t even have them

Lot's of great advice, thanks to all...this in particular was a comment that brightened my day :D

  • Soo...follow up question: are these clad S quarters made every year? My impression was just 2019 and 2020, and they were put into circulation, not just in rolls and bags...? Searched the Mint site, but I'm still confused. But that is nothing new.

Submit a few and chase some hi grades.

Not sure on start date. The first year of the NPs quarters did not have them but all other years did.

They were only sold in rolls and bags. Any found in circulation were put there by someone who bought then from the mint.

S quarters must have been out for many years. I have found S proof quarters from 1978, 1981, 1999 up to current year.😎

not talking proofs, talking ATB S mint.

check wikipedia for the S mint release years.

they are available only via the mint web site. $10 rolls and $100 bags.

They started with uncirculated S mint quarters in 2012. There are many years of Proof S mint quarters from proof sets which is what you are finding. The die finish is completely different on Uncirculated strike and Proof strike.

Yeah, I've found alot of proofs too with the cool Matte finish, these basically look like a regular circulated coin strike to my untrained eye. Seems to me anything special in the strike would be lost in circulation pretty quickly. Funny, with all the roll searching I've done I've never run across any of these except 2019 and 2020. I suspect a few may have gotten thrown onto rolls for circulation at the mint. I've found some weird things in brand new boxes...like 2019 quarters showing up in a brand new roll of 2020's. Not to fan the flames of any "mint conspiracy" ideas, but what is the likely hood there was some "accidental" subbing for what were supposed to be "W" quarters salted into the circulation hopper...bin...thing they put them in before they get rolled...?
