Too many calories for my diet.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Not to be a smart ass but if you wanted it why didn't you buy it. Your company owned the coin and you sold it. If the question is out of line I apologize.

Yes, they do. But one denomination is enough for me at this point in time. I certainly looked at what Ed Price did and derived some inspiration but not for the dimes.

    What did it sell for?

NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers

  • breakdownbreakdown Posts: 2,163 ✭✭✭✭✭

It was listed for 135K. I had a similar reaction to early Aurumn. I am trying to be very focused on some narrow collecting goals and dimes certainly don't fall within them. Nevertheless, when I saw the coin on Legend's site, I at least did some hypothetical math on what I could sell, etc.
If I was a box of 20 collector, this coin would seem to check a lot of boxes...

Same here but to each his own. It's not like he can't start a box of 30 at some point but for now he is happy with the project he is working on and that is what matters the most in this hobby at all collecting levels. Just be happy simple as that.

Why do you feel that way? Based on the photos, the coin looks gorgeous and I would have guessed it graded as high as 66 or even 67. But it’s a 65+.

Coin most likely has PL fields and that's a slight angle shot to get the colors to pop as seen when tilted in hand under a light source. Additionally the fact that it's a small diameter coin doesn't make it any easier. There's only a few photographers that can manage to get proper photo of such a coin in a slab. For the rest it's challenging to the point that after a while you just give up and run with the best image you've managed to take.

That coin in beautiful and I could have added it to my collection. But...after adding it my collection would be down to a Box of 1 and my then divorced wife would be not be as supportive of my collecting as she is now (sort of). Neither is very appealing of an option for me! :)

Because I’m done building sets. I’ve seen what gradeflation does to the values.

I completely get that. Although I have to say that there are plenty of other ways to avoid that particular minefield.
