I have not been to Fenway in 30 years and am much more comfortable in front of my ancient 55 inch screen watching the Sox do whatever they are going to do. I make no predictions as to how they will do but hope for the best. The refrigerator is also well stocked with whatever I want at Walmart prices too.

You forgot free parking and no waiting in line at the men's room. :D
    Hope you're enjoying the games.

Cant forget those can we Al.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

How well I remember those troughs at Fenway.

BTW, nothing wrong with a 55" tube, got one myself.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

    oh those troughs. yuck.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

I had forgotten all about them. That is what happens when you pass 80 my friends. You tend to forget things you don't want to remember.

If todays game is an indication of what the Sox do this year than I am excited. Jared Duran who was optioned to the minors temporarily was on fire and Garrott Whitlock was spectacular in the pitching dept. Their hutting has been good this spring so we shall see what happens. Bloom's pickups are looking good so far .

Saturdays game on MLB Network at 1:00 PM
Sunday on NESN at 1:00 PM

I am also in favor of getting rid of Martinez and using Devers as D?H . They have plenty of other young stars for 3rd base. Devers has shown he can not keep his head in the game fielding 3rd base.

Well Devers obviously can't play 3rd, but they should try him out at 1st because they haven't had a first baseman who could hit well enough to play the position in years.

They have several 1st basemen this year.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

I am thinking of going down to the local casino and putting a Benjamin on the Red Sox to win the whole thing this year. The odds should be sky high and I have done worse things with $100 in my lifetime.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

    "Irrational exuberance". Alan Greenspan

they have NO, ZIP, NADA chance

Spend that Benji on groceries or gas.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Why, I have plenty of groceries and don't use enough gas to make any difference. My wife wants to go to the casino anyway so I will play a little craps when I go to the place I used to work at ( Route 66 casino). I miss that game and haven't ever bet on a sports team so want to try it.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

A nice one hour visit to your former workplace. Hope you win that bet.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

And you didn't even get in touch with me when you went there ! Very successful trip my friend. I hope I win that bet too! They don't even use those kind chips anymore, you would have to take all black.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

It was a quick visit...we had just taken the "back way", or southern route through back roads out of Chaco Canyon, popped out on the interstate and on the way back into town, I saw the casino on the right.
While playing (I was at 1st base) with another guy who was chatting up the dealer, pretty sure he was a regular...anyway...so, I asked the dealer if they had "surrender" here. She said yes, and then when I did surrender a hand, the regular looked at me like I just came from Mars. He asked the dealer what I just did, and after her explanation, he said "I never knew that". Wow dude, if you don't know the rules, why play at more of a disadvantage they you already have.

Sandia treated me a little better. B) Had one of those shoes that just kept on giving...it was awesome. Of course betting at $100-$200 per hand helped. Splits and double downs just went my way. Playing with a guy who didn't want me to leave, but I decided to lock up my win and grab my car keys.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Yea, Sandia has higher limits but they have not been open for a year now so I can't go there even though its near my house.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Opening day is Thursday afternoon so wish them well this year.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

I still say Devers should not be at 3rd base. He gets to the ball and then his head is up his ass. Put him as D/H until he learns how to throw the ball. Even D/H for him is a question mark with his wild swings. That error today ultimately lost them the game AGAIN.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

I listened a bit while I waited for the wife to help the local economy...I didn't know who was playing, most of the players are a mystery to me...but, E I G H T E E N LOBs ain't gonna cut it. Castiglione was announcing.

I'm sure Mr Wizard (Chaim) will figure it all out.

Get some of that mile high fresh air, tis only baseball.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Some body better figure it out quickly.
I did not get down to the casino to throw away my Benjamin but the wife wants to go Monday . That means my pushing a wheelchair around for her. I will go but my Benjamin will be a double sawbuck now as I don't like what I have seen so far. The air is dry and in the eighties today so I am enjoying it my friend. The weather in Fenway is cold and dreary for more reasons than the temperature.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Well seeing as how I was not able to get to the casino I made myself $100 because I could not get a bet down on the Sox winning everything this year. Maybe I will buy some beer and popcorn and just watch them lose some more games. I can always switch channels too and watch some good baseball.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yup, ain't lookin' too good. Well, they did sit Devers.

Read an article about Cora and Chavis...Cora saying that he was glad that Chavis was mad about getting sent down to 3A Worcester. Cora thinking it would push him to do better...hello, do you really think he wasn't trying?

They should send YOU and BLOOMer down to never come back. Hey, Bloomy, how are those trades working out, or was it your plan to go 0-3 from day one. Hope you get dumped!!

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Devers has big problems and they will not be able to correct them on the bench. He has to play somewhere other than on
the Red Sox. You see it when he bats as well as on the field. If he has options left, which I doubt, it is time for him to go to Worchester to get his head on straight or to another team where he can get professional help he is not getting now.. Bring back Chavis to play first and move Dalbec to third. See, I can manage better than Cora and they are not throwing me any money.

    Nice haul Al! 👍👍

I went to the casino yesterday and won $400 but it was on slot machines not table games as they have not opened them yet. I then came home and watched the Sox game without commercials which was a win win situation so had a good day.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

Nice win. I admit to playing slots occasionally with the wife, she spins and wins, I spin...I win, she spins...

Once upon a time at MGM Grand in Vegas while waiting to see Celine Dion at Caesars.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

That was a nice hit for sure Al. When I play the slots I don't play for the big money as it is just to kill time and I sure don't want any jackpots that go over The magic reporting number as I don't like all the paperwork involved. They have been having trouble getting dealers back now after the long layoff so who knows when table games will start up again.

The sox won again last night in spite of the errors of omission and commission.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah, just a lucky hit. They make a big deal out of paying you. Of course I got the W2-G.
Lot of folks don't know the threshold is $1,200 to get the W2-G...while the pic below isn't really a "jackpot", its a jackpot to the IRS, as you see on the machine. This was a $1,800 hit. We kinda enjoy the triple diamond. Some of those slots look crazy to me, but I always see people playing them. Like you, we only play to kill time...this was our 3rd "max hit". Getting the benjis is nice.

The recent decision to move the All-Star game has really soured me on the game. Play ball, not politics! Lots of minority owned businesses here a HUGELY pissed!! Obviously they were counting on the income...said to be some $100 million impact on the local economy that now will find its way to Colorado. I won't watch...I do my best to catch a Sox game.

My gaming play is mostly at Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina, about a 3 hour drive for me. Table games are wide open, but masks mandatory. Only 3 players at a blackjack table, 1st base, middle and 3rd base.

    Stay well.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

The sox seem to be getting it together with todays sweep of the Rays so hopefully they will keep it up.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

What is going on with the game on u tube? I don't do those ridiculous computer game things so could not get the game.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Loved the game yesterday so much I went back to the casino and put $50 on the sox to win the world series then went out and played a penny machine and lo and behold won a $3100.00 jackpot and ended up with one of those dreaded tax forms. Who would have expected that on a penny machine?

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

WOW, nice win there Steve!! Kindofa cool thrill to have them count out the benjis. The random number generator was good to you!!

That W2-G will go to the IRS and will be considered income for next year's taxes...the only way I know to offset this is to gather up enough losses to counterbalance the win. Maybe your casino offers year end action data to provide documentation for tax purposes. I think with your player's card it tracks your action each time you play...you probably know more about this than me, having worked there. But I'd sure try to find a way to not get scalded for that nice win, even if you could chop it down a little.

Gotta say, what little I've seen of the Sox, they ain't lookin' too bad.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Thank you Al. I have low enough earnings that are visible that $3100 will not bring up my taxes but don't need any more wins like that to show up. Thats why I only bet $50 on the World Series instead of $100 as that payout of $5800 on the larger bet would have made the difference.
The sox do look pretty good and that rule 5 pickup from the dreaded Yankees looks like a winner.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

What do they do with a dead head like Devers? I have not seen so many mental mistakes in one game by such a great potential player in my life.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

appears JD Martinez poor year last season was an aberration. guy is on fire!!

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

The whole team is on fire. It makes my $50 bet on them look like a decent bet. I love these day games as I am getting to old for the night games now.

  • GoldenageGoldenage Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tommy. I did the same yesterday with my Masters winnings. I took 1/4th of my winnings and put it on the Sox for the division and World Series. The odds were fantastic on draft kings. I don’t consider it a serious bet, as 3/4 of my winnings will go to better adventures, but this is a fun bet because no one thinks this team can do it.

  • GoldenageGoldenage Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

My hand in front of my shirt that will bring me good luck . Lol.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

The more I see of them the better I like them.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

    Two seven inning games tomorrow.
Who will they bring up to pitch tomorrow as they can bring one up..
How about Tanner Houck? I really like what he has done so far.
Why not give him a shot on a one game basis and then go back down again.
It was good to see Dalbec get those 2 key hits today
It looks like we are going to have to get used to Devers errors as he is hitting the cover off the ball.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

Bloom's fingers are all over this team. He started by trading away a great player, who wanted more money than the Red Sox could afford to give and built a team. He has the same perspective that the Rays do and that is to build a team up and when a player gets so good he commands too much money trade him for some good looking young talent to take his place. Let other teams pay now for what he did years ago. Don't get into a place where you have to be the team paying out those 100's of million dollars for players no matter how good they are. Verdugo for Betts was a great example of that and now the Sox are in a position they can buy a player or two that could make a difference to finish the year strong as they have the extra money available to rent a couple of players to finish the year strong and then let them go away after the season ends.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

man, those are the worst uniforms ever.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

We can live with them for a couple of days, especially if they keep on winning.

  • GoldenageGoldenage Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sox are hot. I only picked them to win the AL east and it’s in the money already. Keep it up boys.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭✭

I put $50.00 on them to win the World Series never mind the American League east. Payout will be $2850.00.

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 11,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

they cranked another one out today. they really piled on in the first inning

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I've got them for the World Series as well. Probably will cash out if they win the division. We'll see. Dodgers look tough.

I am in all the way! It's only $50 and I've thrown more than that away on junk.
They beat one of the best pitchers in baseball last night.

    Wow. Never throw away anything.
I’m in this to make money, and if the Dodgers look stronger I’ll cash out. Good luck.
