1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson question
Hi Folks,
Brand new here, and not really a card trader, but: nearly 20 years ago during a house remodel, I found a 1949 Bowman J.R. card in a wall cavity. Yes! Seems it had fallen through a crack below where a boy from a past age of this house had it pinned up. In fact, that pin damage, on the border of the card, seems to be all that is wrong with it. Perhaps the color is not as vibrant as it might be. Hard to tell. I've had it protected all these years and it's in good shape, but I've never had it graded. I didn't know anything about grading until today! Anyways, now I might want to sell it, and I am considering sending it to PSA, but I am confused about how to figure a "declared value." Maybe its worth it's a 6 or higher, or maybe that pin hole puts it way down. Any ideas how I should approach this? I don't want to spend $500 getting a card graded that only turns out to be worth $2000. Thanks for your help!

If authentic, the pinhole makes it a PSA 1.
Thanks LarkinCollector. And is there any way to tell if is "authentic?"
It's not a set I have enough familiarity with to say one way or another. A back picture would probably help those who are.
Nice card. Looks legit to me.
Looks like the real deal
Real yes, and automatic 1. Nice card!!!!
Nice $1k-$2k find! Maybe in this market it might fetch $2500 or $3k.
Personally I would get it slabbed even though a 1 is a sure thing. With the recent run up in pricing, You’re a little light on your $2k estimate, I’d think.
Thank you all. Appreciate the feedback. It seems strange to me that I see defects that seem more serious on other cards, in the PSA grading examples, such as scuffs and watermarks, and those cards would be graded higher than one with a pin mark. But I believe what you say.
I think with a hole, that's considered as part of the card missing...which is the reason for an automatic 1. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
edit: So for the PSA 1.5 Fair rating, it actually says the card must be "fully intact", not missing any pieces. Which is maybe what the hole is considered. So can only get a 1.
A pinhole is an automatic 1. Don’t confuse eye appeal with technical grade. Your card looks great!

Send it to PSA and pay them as a 1.. They will contact you if they want more money.
Thanks again. The system seems a wee bit bizarre but I guess those are the rules. Kind of tough though to see the same card that to my uneducated eyes looks just a hair nicer sell on eBay today for $21500. A pin hole. Go figure.
If you are looking to sell, then it is advantageous to get it graded. It will be a 1, but you will most likely come out ahead selling it as a graded 1(minus your fees), then if you try to sell it without getting it graded. Even if you keep it, still get it graded now. You can't go wrong with Jackie Robinson cards. His cards have staying power in any market.
At least they used a pin and not a barn spike.
