Thanks. Apparently that image is from the so-called hazard camera. I posted it and then a few minutes later, the image got higher resolution as more data arrived, so I reposted. They said better images will be available later in the day.
I’m amazed how far things have gone getting images. I still remember watching breathlessly when Voyager 2 got to Neptune. I was only a teen but I was transfixed. Watched several live Mars landings, too.
It’s funny, I have literally no skin in the game but it makes me stressed nearly as much as my regular job, lol.

Hopefully no one chimes in with this is just a Mars thread posing as a coin thread 😉

My one-time pocket piece.
I thought Howard Wolowitz's girlfriend ran it into a ditch.

It always blows me away how, except for the Flat Earthers, everyone accepts how we've landed rovers on Mars including using a Sky Crane, yet 1 in 10 Americans don't believe we landed Men on the Moon 50 years ago. FWIW, technically it is MUCH more difficult to do what has just been accomplished than landing men on the Moon.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the people who made the Perseverance mission possible!!!
The coin is just a heavily circulated Barber quarter that I used for scale. The rock beside it is a 34 gram piece of Martian meteorite. It's fun to hold it and look at Mars at night.

I love that meteorite @SkyMan

Back in 2019 I had fun as a judge in NASA's Name the Mars Rover Essay Contest.
Perserverance was a terrific eventual winner

My puppy's name (along with almost 11 million other names) is on the Perseverance Rover.
Outstanding!

A piece of Mars! How cool!! I have a tiny piece of the moon in a Cook Islands coin celebrating the Apollo 11 moon landing-
Philosophically, it fascinates me that, plus or minus a few months, we put a man on the moon almost at the instant we developed enough technology in a hundred different fields to make it just barely feasible. The human spirit is not easily contained.
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.”
I've got a friend, call him the "Moon man" because he likes all the Apollo and similar coins. He was on this forum but got to far out for the mods....
The only space related coins I have are Ike dollars... The space program has always intrigued me and this Mars landing was spectacular. Along with the rover, there is a mini-helicopter that will fly around to look for interesting features to explore. Just amazing. Cheers, RickO

No coin but here is a piece of Mars. This is a slice of meteorite NWA 13366 found in the Moroccan desert. It is mostly composed of the minerals olivine and pyroxene. The image shows the individual crystals that formed as its magma solidified in the Mars crust. The scale is cm. Taken on the same camera setup I take images of coins on.
First photos came back!
