Question on 8 Reale

I know its not technically a US coin, but they circulated in the US. I need an opinion on this coin. Is it a real? What is it worth? Looks AUish with possible old cleaning and an obvious hole.

I don't know if it's real or what it's worth. But I wouldn't buy it. I wouldn't even consider it.
I am definitely not an expert on Reales, however, based on some fakes I have seen, I would say that 'may' be fake. The image looks strange. Cheers, RickO
I carry an 1807 that is well worn compared to that one. With the hole I'd say it was a necklace piece. I'd post on the world coin forum but I'd say it looks real.
I’d lean toward real.
No idea if this is a better date or variety, but assuming it’s common, the hole likely reduces the value to somewhere around melt, or perhaps a small premium.
It seems that many of these were abused. I bought a group of them in a large estate a number of years ago, and many of them had some issue; counterstamps, graffiti, holes, etc.
I lean to it being genuine. The funky surfaces, I believe, are a product of surface damage (those are definitely not original--not a possible old cleaning) and the lighting. One quick test is to flip the coin and see if it rings. Some counterfeits may be silver, but many are not.
Obverse looks real while the reverse looks soft and funky. Either way, the surfaces are miles and miles away from untouched.

I would say it's worth $40.
Looks real. Would make a spiffy pocket piece.
For under $50 why not
Looks like a shipwreck recovery coin based on the dull surfaces.

..to the OP... it's not technically a US coin but I'm considering one to round out a "Box of 20" after I finish my type set... Cool old coins that circulated in the US before we were a country. I'd love to find one from the French-Indian War era...

Can't be much more than that with the hole I would pass on it the only holed coins I don't mind owning are the norm for certain Mexican coins like the 1/2 reales royals.
I tend to think OP's coin is genuine, but long use as a pocket piece, probably polished several times. Reason being that Carolus III and Carolus IIII had very distinctive noses and the counterfeits I've seen just don't get them right.

Not only circulate it was legal tender amazing they are not common.
Looks ok to me.
I don't know much about that coin ... but I do like it!
I'd hazard a guess that it is real(e)
