New Peace $

I collect Morgans but it feels natural to branch into Peace dollars while I'm stuck on the final 1893-S for my Morgan collection right now. I find it difficult to grade Peace dollars due to the weak strike on the reverse but I liked the overall look on this one. Like Morgans, I enjoy a little color, frost and luster on this series as well. This 1922-D is my first (PCGS) certified Peace purchase. How'd I do? (I'll post the grade later on, so feel free to play guess the grade!)

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

I like the coin. It appears to have thick, intact skin and very good frost. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it is great.

Agree. That is what I think original toning looks like on a Peace Dollar.

Nice original coin! I would guess the grade would be 63.

Looks like a 64 to me.... I find the spots/residues distracting and unattractive... but underneath that, it appears to be a very nice Peace dollar... Cheers, RickO

It lacks the kind of eye appeal that is my preference, but I can appreciate it nonetheless. I agree with others in the 63–64 range.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

    The 64's are correct!

I'm looking forward to seeing it in hand soon...

Congrats on your Morgan set. Quite an accomplishment even without the 93S. Peace dollars can be addictive. :)

@metalmeister Thank you! I agree, the Peace set seems to be an attractive and underated set. I'm sure the release of the 2021 Peace dollar will only increase its popularity.

It looks like a DLRC image. The coin may be a bit darker in hand.

  • anablepanablep Posts: 5,158 ✭✭✭✭✭

@gtstang it is DLRC! Nice guess there!

    Really nice coin!

I moved to Peace Dollars VAMs a couple years ago. My Morgan set is missing the 81cc, 93s and 94p. I can pick up a bunch of Peace Dollars for the cost of one of those coins...

That's exactly what I was thinking too. For the price of one G6 1893-S I can enjoy multiple dates of the Peace set in MS64-65.
