64-D Washington DDO??

So I bought the cherry pickers guide and have been looking through a lot of my coins to check things out. I haven’t found anything really until today. I found this on a 64D quarter. Is this a double die? If so why? If not why? I’m trying to learn here. Thanks!!! Also sorry for the bad pics.

Not a doubled die... mechanical doubling. Take a look at the 'W' in We.... on the left side, notice how flat and shelf like the doubling is. A real doubled die will not be shelf-like or flattened like that, and you will see 'notches' where the two strikes overlap. On your coin, there are no notches... only flattened portions of the lettering.

Good pictures... Clearly shows machine doubling... no split serifs, check the referenced material.... also you can do a search for doubled die characteristics. A lot of drawings and pictures available. Cheers, RickO
