It’s a steel cent. In world war 2 they needed all the copper to make bullets so they used steel to make cents for 1 year. Everybody noticed how different they looked so many people saved them instead of spending them so they aren’t rare or valuable. Cool, but not valuable.

They are still worth one cent. They continued to be regularly found in circulation into the 1960's. The zinc coating is thin and they are often found with rust where the zinc has been worn away.
When they're found in uncirculated condition they can have a good look

They are worth closer to 10 cents even in that condition.
Anyone has seen one of these in less than VG?

My comment meant that they were still usable as money. I don't know how much dealers would charge for them in that condition.
