I still wouldn't want more than ~100-200 coins but the average price for each would be pretty incredible.

I think I would have to work on a complete US collection, and then work on coins from all over the world. Would need a nice big house for the collection as well.

I would collect veterans with PTSD and emotional issues, and provide treatment and companionship to reduce the suicide rate of these heroes. Cheers, RickO

The first would be a top end set of my favorite coins, the Indian quarter eagles, which I currently have completed in AU58-MS61. After that...hmmm....probably a complete (save 1) high end set of Saint's.

    Nothing from 1984.

Besides charitable giving, helping people however I can, I'd try to assemble a high-grade complete US Type Set, and, again, a high-grade set of every coin from all the kings of Great Britain. Just for fun. But helping people who need it would be my greatest pleasure.

After charitable contributions, I would move a block from Doug Winter and become a very regular customer.

Assuming it didn't have to be coin related, I'd collect Apple, Alphabet (Google), and Amazon stocks.

    60's Ferraris.

    Hmmm,
An endless supply of money. I would take care of family and friends. Donate to my favorite charities. Then, yes, I would indulge in some superb coins and cars. The sky would be the limit. I can’t put all of my dreams down on paper, it’s endless. With that said I wonder what Jeff Bezos does with his money? I see he has an incredible yacht and homes but I wonder if he collects anything besides semi truck trailers full of money.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

    1801 Proof $1
1811 upgrade the half cent from a VG to a pop top

Oddly, I don't know if I would enjoy a hobby as much as I would enjoy charitable work. Strange, but once one can afford virtually anything, material things and self-interested things lose much of their appeal. However, I would welcome putting this noble thought to the test,

I’ve reflected on this too and wonder if I’d be easily sated and then lose interest. But then again, was Hugh Hefner easily sated? 😮

That is simply a good point and I would like to hope not

    Ancients and/or old US copper

  • FredFFredF Posts: 527 ✭✭✭

Honestly, if I could have any coin I wanted, I probably would want them a lot less. One of the reasons the hobby is fun is the scarcity (of my dollars, not of coins).

In practical terms - I wouldn't go for the expensive coins because they'd need to be stored someplace secure and that would be no fun because I couldn't get them out to look at them. I probably would go for something simple like a full set of circulated IHC's, most of which are affordable but with mad money I could get the 1877. There's something about hole-filling that scratches an itch.

Once most of my virtuous generosity to the needy was accomplished, 😏
    I'd probably go shopping for quarters: 1796, 1804, 1806 B-8, 1822 25/50, 1823, 1827, a few others.

For me, it would be early/bust halves, AU and up. I've always been fascinated with the die varieties.

I'm guessing I'd be pretty cheap. 1st Collect what I collect now which is 20th century stuff. Only it would be hi grade top pop. 2nd I'd have to buy the Halcyon FB Roosevelt set. 3rd would be St Gaudens double Eagles complete set. That's it. I'd be happy.

While I would indulge the coin hobby, I would first send some money to St. Jude hospital,
The Shriners hospital, The Wounded Warriors organization, and to a few animal shelters.
After that the "School Girl" dollar pattern.

It would be fun to go to a few big coin auctions and be the whale in the room.

Well, not the “complete” set. The 1933 would be a little challenging 😉

Yea, probably a little beyond my budget. No matter how much money I had. LOL !!!

When I was young and started collecting a $4 Stella had a book value starting somewhere north of $20,000 and that was out of sight. Now, after 40+ years of working I have more money than I did and those are even further out of range. I'd love to own one. C'mon sugar mama, please? I'm worth it!

Very high grade pre-1838 type coins. Chain cent, Half Disme, Flowing hair dollar etc ... true rarities in my opinion.

Same here, except I'd extend it a year to have an 1839-O Bust Half fill the Reeded Edge slot. This one would do...

    https://coins.ha.com/itm/reeded-edge-half-dollars/half-dollars/1839-o-50c-ms66-pcgs-cac-gr-1-r1-pcgs-6181-/a/1213-30481.s

Then again, if we're talking basically unlimited money, maybe I'd just get an 1838-O proof.
