Worth it to cross grade to PSA?

Hi all. What do you think this KSA card would get on a cross grade with PSA? Is it worth it to submit?

    Yes, it’s worth it.

Now, I don’t know if it will cross at 8. But anyone with the dough to buy it is likely going to want a discount for a KSA graded card or, more likely, one that is already in a PSA slab.

Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

Sorry if this sounds harsh... it’s a beautiful card, but you asked so...

Is KSA pretty good with detecting trimming? The card has sharp edges and corners, but I don’t see the typical rough cut of an OPC. Not saying it’s trimmed, but the risk is always that you crack it out, PSA calls it trimmed/ min size, and now you’re left with a shell of what you previously had. If you do send it in to crossover, maybe leave it slabbed and specify a minimum grade so you’ll get it back as-is if they don’t like it as much as you want them to.

Regarding an expected PSA grade, it’s tough to say 6 or 7?. Not sure how much PSA will ding it for registration/focus - edges/corners look great, centering is slightly off but definitely not bad, but the registration may be the biggest flaw that bumps it down the PSA scale.

I do agree with Wheaties, though - a buyer will likely want the PSA slab or will discount to the pricing for their opinion of the PSA grade if it remains in the KSA slab.

I agree that you should cross over, but leave it in the slab and specify a min grade.

Yes, but if he puts something like 7 or 8 as a minimum grade it will likely be returned as not meeting minimum grade. If he is are willing to take any grade (if it's even gradable) that PSA determines just to get it out of that holder, then he should put PSA 1 as his minimum grade.

  • Thanks. I sent it off today with a minimum grade of 6 to reslab. Will let you know what they come back at.

I wish you the best of luck! I will say that I have only purchased a couple of KSA cards and both were trimmed. Could tell as soon as I got them out of the holder. Confirmed by putting them next to a card I knew was legit. Needless to say, both cards went directly into the trash.
Honestly, if this card was trimmed, you would probably want it in a PSA Altered holder instead of a KSA holder.
    Just something to think about.

  • An OPC with that kind of clean cut in a KSA holder .... :(

  • I measured it and it was the correct size. I think the issue is that back then there were two different methods to obtain the card. One was cut from sheets separate from the onfound in the packs. Having said that KSA likey doesn't care if the card was cut from sheets. Perhaps PSA does. Will find out. Either way will be a learning experience one way or another.

The only thing that REALLY concerns me about this card is the lack of fuzzy edges. I know there are some OPC cards that are relatively clean, but there are always tell tale signs that the card was cut using the traditional factory methods. This is what I really love about the older OPC cards. They are very hard to trim without leaving clear evidence. This one looks like someone took a razor to it.

PSA will not grade sheet cut cards and they are considered trimmed.
