AElfred 1000 years Jubilee medal, dark side/light side left side/right side, what is this thing?

From a box in the bank deposit box I haven’t seen in over 10 years that I totally forgot about. What is this thing? I can’t tell if it is from England or the US because it looks like a British coat of arms on the left and US flag on the right on the obverse. Also, is this worth slabbing, and what grading company would slab it, if any?

British all the way. A quick Google search of Aelfred shows he was the king of the West Saxons. The medal commemorates the 1000th anniversary of his birth.
No idea at all on value.
But why the Stars and Stripes, I’m wondering 🤔

Bears a bit of resemblance to the Lancaster conder token:

couldn't find much, but:
w. j. taylor = william joseph taylor [engraver]

yours appears to be the second reverse described at bottom of page
Wow, thanks! That’s awesome detective work finding that, it explains why the Stars and Stripes shield is on there and everything. I’m even more intrigued with the medal now.

yeah, @Mr_Spud - looking into taylor, found myself wanting to know more 😅
good luck tracking more details down - I figure if the british museum has a collection of his stuff, your medal is worth holding onto 🙂
An interesting medal in very nice condition. It is probably worth slabbing just to get it in a protective holder.
Great detective work.
But I think it is the original reverse as described in the text...
Nice!
Interesting medal and thanks @ɹoʇɔǝlloɔ for the background history. Cheers, RickO
@JBK @ricko was so surprised to have a book/periodical that referenced the medal pop up in my late night sleuthing - so nice when history reveals itself 🪙🔍👁
it's a cool piece with really interesting history - taylor had an interesting life
