I Wrote A Very Long Major Error Coin Article With Lots Of Photos For Mint Error News

Mint Error News just published my longest numismatic article by far, 14 full pages and 37 photos.
Wow, that was quite a bit of work. I think the article and photos came out great.
I wrote about my specialty of Ultra Modern Major Mint Error Coins. I hope you guys and gals learn something or at least form an appreciation for the newer mint escapes.
Here is the link, my article starts on Page 85.

At some time when I was working for Harlan Berk in downtown Chicago, which would have been 1989-2010, a guy came in who worked for one of the local armored car companies. He said that he had a large group of error coins that had been retrieved from shipments of new coins from the Mint, and showed me (IIRC) some off centers and clips. Nothing spectacular. He seemed to have a good feel for the retail price of stuff, and wanted damn near that for everything as a large lot. I didn't think we could make any money on the deal so I passed and gave him Fred's number.
excellent article, great pics as well
Ya the good ole days that I missed.
You would have done very well buying those lots
I did buy many huge error coin lots in the year 2000 - 2001 and wish I had bought more. So much was available at that time. Everything changed in 2002 as I stated in my article.
A few years ago I did buy a medium-size lot of error coins from a dealer who said it came from an armored car employee.
I do not worry about missing the good ole days as I believe the market is way bigger and much more fluid because of the internet.
I believe with the internet and high-end photography the error coin market is stronger today than ever.
Good for you Chris.
Thanks for the weblink, Chris.
Nice article and great photos. It is an enjoyable read.
cool article - always appreciate when you share your knowledge, experience and crazy error examples
A nice overview and, of course, excellent photos. Thanks for the link
Congrats on being recognized as an industry expert. Great article and pics.
Nice article. Nice errors. Thank you.
One question though. Could you explain the 2019 PCGS AU55 Large Broadstruck Out Of Collar Dime Mint Error Only Known Reverse and the 2019 PCGS AU55 Large Broadstruck Out Of Collar Dime Mint Error Only Known Obverse?
Are they uniface?
Edited to add: I guess the reverse couldn't be uniface since the date is known.
Ya, that does kinda read weird. It is one coin. Only known. Obverse and reverse of the same coin. I guess I should have reworded that caption.
Thanks for the clarification.
Fantastic, thank you!
A for effort, + for great content and pics!!!

Interesting article. I appreciate your effort. Awesome pictures of errors, some I didn't even know existed. Thank you sir.
Do you have any examples of the 2007? Are die caps, like the one shown, representative of these large mint errors?
Zoins, can you clarify what you are asking? I will edit this post to answer your question when I figure out what you are asking
I was wondering what the following look like. Are the oversized pieces generally die caps, broadstruck, or other types of large sizes?
Yes, most of the larger ones I have seen from 2007 are die caps or double struck broadtruck errors.
Super cool!
I’m looking forward to reading it.
Admittedly, I have a LOT to learn in this area so this looks excellent.

Great article and pics!
I'm not sure I really want to read a very long article written by you?
Just kidding as I'll check it out!
I remember competing with you for major Sacagawea errors 20 years ago

Not much competition as I recall since I think you had a Velcro wallet back then?

Wow... Great article @ErrorsOnCoins ... and super pictures. Thanks for the link.... Cheers, RickO
Thank you all for your wonderful comments
I have already been asked to write another long photo-intensive article for the next issue
Looking forward to the next issue.
Very cool!

thats one of the better issues. wealth of information in that one. love the offmetals, double denominations and the information regarding other countries we produced coins for.
Yes, this issue was packed with information.
Saul Teichman’s list of prices and pedigrees has never been published before!
And the PCGS certified 1943 Lincoln Cent Struck on a Surinam 25 Cent Planchet, that Fred Weinberg had in his collection for over 20 years is extremely rare and very exciting.
Well done... Thanks for undertaking the project. What a terrific publication.

Great article @ErrorsOnCoins
I wonder if/how they enforce this ?

also started requiring the coin rolling
companies to return misshaped
errors the machines kick out while
rolling coins for commerce."

What I heard is that the rolling companies were required to return all the kicked out misshaped error coins to the US Mint in order to keep their contract with the US Mint.
Mornin' -
Chris, I just read your article, and thanks for your take on
modern mint errors - comprehensive, well illustrated,
and educational.
Congratulations, and I can't wait for your next subject/article.
Chris, congratulations! Always a thrill to see your name published for all to see! I really enjoyed the quick read and awesome pictures. You helped clarify what a true error coin really looks like for me.
Thanks for the link. I am not an error guy but love your enthusiasm. Great work.
I like any coin mag big enough where someone can say my article starts on page 85
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I had heard that also (probably here on the forum), but how do they enforce it?
Does the mint expect a certain reject rate? Do they seed the shipments with errors as a test? Do they investigate major errors that make it to the market?
BUT how does the government monitor and enforce that?

just askin
