The ability to use things like Google Pay and Apple Pay is critical for younger customers.

You'd think they could find an Old Fart somewhere who could explain to them how to use PayPal. ;)

They just don't want to. LOL. They also don't use cash. The times they are a-changing.

How long does it take to get a 'managed payments' account started?

I ask because I was high bidder on an auction that closed last month. I have contacted the seller and they have given me dates when their account 'should' be going.

Do they ask for banking information, dbas, tax information, what? What slows the process?

They do ask for that information, although they have some of it already. But I'm not quite sure why there would be a delay like that since they don't transition you until the account is ready to go. There must be something else going on there.

FYI being contrarian wasn't meant as an insult. Someone needs to "play devils advocate" or give dissenting opinion.
I mostly lurk here, but figured that you did it intentionally to give the other side of the argument. I mean how can someone disagree with me so often since I'm always right. >:)

Fair enough. Although I am consistently pro-eBay

The "devil's advocate" was a prosecutor in the Catholic church to argue why a given "saint" should not be sainted. Rhetorically it is often used for someone taking an unpopular side of an argument when it is assumed by loyalists that everything is hunky-dory and no one should be concerned or upset by major changes.

Ebay has given sellers no alternative to their managed payments roll out. Paypal is a rigorous payment system designed to prevent fraudulent credit card transactions and guarantee transactions for both the customer and business entity. I have had customers make false claims on not getting a collectible; one in Canada tried a charge back on a one ounce gold coin a month after the purchase. Fortunately I used the global shipping program, contacted paypal who dealt with it on their end. I wonder if Ebay's paypal replacement staff is ready for various fraud problems?

"If it's not broken don't fix it". The Ebay/Paypal partnership has been a good system. Now we have Ebay assuming all control over the role that Paypal had. Payments are going to be slower, we are supposed to be satisfied that sellers are going to be charged a little less. This is not an improvement considering all the complexities connected to Paypal's successful system with fraud problems a constant headache for their managers.

I think this ignores the specific history:
    1. The "choice" issue was also raised when eBay forced users to use PayPal exclusively. It was not initially a PayPal partnership. PayPal was spun out of eBay later.
    2. PayPal will always defer to the credit card processor and will not interfere while that investigation is going on. To that end, PayPal MAY give you a second appeal but it is not the primary fraud prevention. eBay also presents a 3rd opportunity and they actually intervened and paid me out of their Seller Protection when it happened to me.
    3. It's not eBay, it's Adyen which is an existing payment processor. This is not a new eBay creation. It is an eBay incorporation of an existing payment processor.

just wanted to add this to one of these managed payment threads. i sent a message to the bay few weeks ago regarding having unfettered access to my bank account, which i am not a fan of anyone having that, sometimes not even myself ><. SO, i see a message on one of my accounts the following just a minute ago. to wit:

We’ll charge your bank account for funds you owe
    Hi Lance,

This is a notice to inform you that we will be debiting $x from your bank account ending in 4634 to cover the outstanding fees and expenses.

We will process this transaction within 3 business days. If your pending and available funds become sufficient to cover any or all of this amount before you are charged, we will debit your pending and available funds and then deduct the remaining amount from your bank account.

You’ll see this charge recorded by your payment provider similar to the following:
    EBAYT6437385027.

hopefully they do this with spontaneous refund requests which spring out of nowhere most of the time.

Well... my deadline date is February 28th. After spending some time investigating other forums, sources, etc. regarding managed payments... I have decided I will no longer comply. I have just closed my seller account/store.

One source mentioned there was small print giving ebay POA privileges in regards to the linked checking account. I started the registration process, so that perhaps I could find some of that small print.... but stopped when they required that I give them my social security number. Up to now, they never needed that. I'm sure it is probably for 1099k forms for tax purposes, but I don't have confidence enough in ebay to allow them using my ssn and checking accounts to use as they please.. so bye bye. And after so many years....

If I was a big seller... and depended on ebay for necessary income.... perhaps I would continue. But thankfully my situation does not necessitate that I have to submit to their intrusive reach and increasing demands....

I haven't listed a coin on eBay in years and I refuse to EVER sell on eBay again.

As a seller, I was hesitant regarding the Managed payment set-up. However, I've been on it for over week. works fine for me. I like the option of having your funds transferred to your checking account once a week automatically. So far, knock on wood, no issues.

I’ve had no issues with the managed payments yet other than them holding funds because of an item not received case that was opened.
I have more issue with eBay tracking not being as current as USPS. eBay tracking shows no movement after left my city. Usps tracking shows in transit but delayed because of severe weather.
I guess tomorrow I find out if I lose $100 to the post office delay.
