Shot for a 65, but landed a 64...1972 IKE Type 2

I figured it would be close and I was hoping for a push over that wall Oh well.... I've seen worse in MS65 holders...

for any date but 1972 I don't even think that would have graded MS64. as a 1972 dated coin it looks OK but you probably realize the MS65 "hope" was a stretch!! this is a date I think I have in MS63 and I wish I'd have bought a Type 2 many years ago when I had a chance, a nice, clean MS65 with good luster and faint gold tone.
your coin looks nice, where did you find it?
@keets I'm not sure I agree with your opinion that 65 was a stretch. My other 64s (5 of them) don't look anywhere near as nice as this one. It's a big pic.. in hand, the coin is nearly mark free. Anyway, it was an Ebay $40 purchase so I'm not that disappointed.
For reference, take a peek at the two below:

Your coins looks MS65. I'd try it again.
I think what really hurt is that disturbance to the right of the eagle.
That a good looking coin with plenty of luster.
Very nice Ike....I think the reverse held it back... and the chatter on the rims. Cheers, RickO
Interesting conversation. I've recently started putting together a date/type set of Ike Dollars. Just for something to do. I'm NEW with the series and know basically nothing about the nuts and bolts of it. But the main thing I'm finding is that it's difficult to locate raw specimens in unc that aren't extremely (to me) nicked-up etc. Especially the portrait. Question; Is it just that I haven't looked at enough pieces or are there planchet problems, striking problems, etc. with the series in general?
I am working on a PCGS graded Ike set. I am missing the 1972 type two and three. All others are a minimum of MS65 with the lone exception being the 1976 type one at MS64. Been a fun set and one of these days I'll loosen the purse strings to buy the final two.
@Jeffnlu I hear you.. I've been looking for a 76 T1 in 65 for a while.. I have a few 64s.. they are tough.
But, I've been trying stubbornly to make my own 72 Type 2 and keep hitting the 64s.. I dunno.. keep trying I will!!
