That looks like solder around the mintmark. :o

Well, the center dot of the V.D.B looks positioned correctly, but! look at the ED in united how the metal looks to have exploded, the entire texture of the coin to me looks CAST. Do the close up view. I could be wrong, I've been that before LoL!

    Question!
I got this other Lincoln cent in the mail (Just arrived) its slabbed (graded) is there a way to actually OPEN these cases up and removing the coin, or do you have to just cut the coin out? This will be the second slabbed coin I will have uncased to add the the coin to my album, I cut the circle out of the other to get the coin out?
    Thanks!

I don’t like it. The lettering looks like an EF and Lincoln is in VF. There are also raised chunks of metal on the reverse.

If it’s real, I would not buy it because it’s a problem coin, but I don’t think it’s real.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Unless you are a qualified expert with not just coins but Lincoln cents I would NEVER take that plunge . The odds are stacked against you. You will be doomed to lose. It’s the best advice I have for you.

I would not crack out a Proof Cent. my worry is accidentally imparting hairlines or rub on it.

however, you would not be the first to crack coins out.

the 2 halves are bonded together. you're not going to just open one and reseal it.

we all have our different tools to crack them.

I use below and go around the edges. the drill with the hole cutter is one I've not seen before. good idea.

Thank You for your time and your comment!
    This is why I'm here.
I have been on a several months now CRASH course of the counterfeit 09S-VDB anyway LoL!
That moon rock looking one was NEVER on even a list of possibilities for me!
I posted a link to one that was slabbed and graded that was on ebay and the seller actually has a Coin Dealership, and he's PCGS certified (among other service) So, I didn't have the information about Penny's coins at that time. Here is the one that I've arranged to purchase, its been cleaned but for my collection its got a nice finish for my (not harshly cleaned), its slabbed.
With this I spent a fair amount of time eyeing the certification card and the case to see if they were counterfeited. Just in case, I paid via Paypal, WITH a backup Charge Card, so, I have Ebay, Paypal, & a Charge Card to backup on if this deal goes south!

:D Well, the one I cut out before what I did was I worked around the outer ring of the circle (window) with a dremel tool and taking my time slowly moving around it. So, I only cut open one side of the window of the case. That kept me a good distance away from the coin being its a small diameter penny.
I know how you feel about cutting open a slabbed coin, I don't like it, and if it was a $10,000 coin I wouldn't ever do it!
The 51 Proof wasn't bought because it was slabbed! I would have bought any 51 Proof that was REAL and had a nice look to it, it just worked out that it ended up being slabbed and graded.
I have TWO notebook Ring binder style coin collection albums that has those plastic 20 slot pouch flip holders in them.
I started this around 1981/82 with a goal of filling ALL the date ranges and mint marks from 09 to current. So, to fulfill that quest pennies for that collection that won't FIT into its HOME means they're lose misfits that has to be stored elsewhere. I didn't want the 09S-VDB to be SLABBED but its to risky to buy one that isn't!! and its STILL risky if its a fake in a counterfeit slab!.
$900.00 is to much for me to pay for a single coin, its a hard lump to swallow, making it harder to cut it out of an air tight slab! I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around opening it up, but I have a quest, and that slab doesn't fit in!
I think I'll go with the Dremel and just cut the circle out of the window, that way at least I can keep the slab with its label intact and hopefully someday when the collection gets handed down to the grandkids they will have as of a complete Lincoln cent collection as their Granddad could put together.
I'm at 362 cents in the collection, and it includes all the proofs from 1950 to 2021. After I get the 09S-VDB I shouldn't have to worry about counterfeit anymore, I'll just from time to time dive into it and do upgrades of the NON key dates! I do believe its possible for me OVER time (if I live long enough) to acquire the proofs back to 1936, its not possible for me to ever afford the one beyond that, meaning I'm needing 7 more proofs, 1936-1942.
    Good Day!
