PCGS has graded over 1,000 AU58 Ikes. A single example has received the + grade!

And I was fortunate enough to locate and purchase it.

I had missed out on buying one of the only plus graded AU58 1964 Kennedy halves a while back and didn't want
to miss out on this single example (within the entire series!) of plus example business strike AU58 Ikes.

    Congrats on your addition!

One thing to think about is how many of those AU58's were already certified when the + grading became a feature at PCGS.

Excellent point. How long has PCGS been grading + coins? Has the + grade been used on all coins from the beginning or were moderns excluded at first?

Why would you care about owning such a thing let alone actually paying good money for it?

Two Leading Grading Services Announce "Plus" Grading PCGS will start designating plus grades immediately and NGC will start designating plus grades within 60 days. The joint announcement was issued on opening day of the American Numismatic Association National Money Show™ in Fort Worth, Texas on March 25, 2010.

I've always like this variety as it is somewhat scarce (business strike using proof dies). Plus the added novelty of having a plus graded AU58 Ike.
Good question, though. Thanks for asking it.

TwoKopeiki: I appreciate the info. It is difficult to believe it's been over ten years since the plus grade has been used with PCGS! Seems like a lot less than that.

The thought of an Everyman Ike Dollar collection strikes me as amusingly redundant.

I don't think there is an Everyman Ike Dollar Registry, yet your observation is not without merit!

I was too cheap by about a buck and a half to purchase this one the other day off ebay.
I just thought it was neat in the old holder. If someone here won it, sorry for that extra dollar and a half. :D

I was an underbidder on that Ike!
That eBay seller has a slew of cool, super older ANACS graded coins, and each one looked good (mostly Morgans).

You wonder who was sending all the non-unc coins that came back AU58? At what point in grades does that become worth sending in?

I'd like to see a slow low cost option at PCGS for coins that are worth under $100.

I have found the way to get an AU58 is to send an existing AU58, that is really MS62-63, for re-grade with the plus only option.

And I have seen AU58+ coins sell for MS65 money on quite a few occasions.

nice pickup! amazing it turned out to be a desirable marriage.

it IS amazing there is only 1 58+ as there must be thousands of good candidates out there.

what really amazes me is that there aren't more of these represented in the pops where someone(s) would want to be ahead of the curve and already have the coins in place so when/if a registry is added, they'd be maxed-out right away.

i've seen a glimps of the amount of money some registry people spend just to get some holes filled in the way of buying many raw, graded and resub/reconsiderations. the amounts i have seen in my mere perspective would make some people faint and that is just the fees.

guess that is why it is called The HOBBY of Kings. ;)
