“Set grading” rookie ?’s

First of all; I appreciate this forum!

Although I reconnected with collecting at the beginning of Covid (1 year ago) the gaps in my experience still exist. I have never submitted a card for grading.

  1. In submitting a set, does PSA slab every card?

  2. Currently in 9 pocket sleeves, do the want them boxed ( taken out of sleeves) or sent in a folder, as they currently exist.

  3. The set consists of 200 cards. Several have already been graded, before I purchased them. Is PSA’s cost determined in advance, during, or after their work is complete? Is there a per card charge or just an overall price?

  4. Upon completion, do they estimate a value? I understand they are recorded in a registry, but don’t really comprehend the details of that process.

Any knowledge/ insight you can pass on is much appreciated. With the horror stories I read about here, I’m weighing the pros and cons of this adventure. The sets I am considering are 1962 Post baseball and football.

They will grade every card if you want them to.

    1. Currently in 9 pocket sleeves, do the want them boxed ( taken out of sleeves) or sent in a folder, as they currently exist.

The cards should be submitted individually, in "card savers" .

    1. The set consists of 200 cards. Several have already been graded, before I purchased them. Is PSA’s cost determined in advance, during, or after their work is complete? Is there a per card charge or just an overall price?

That depends, most of the cards will be worth little, Mantle's and Clemente's etc could cost more.

    1. Upon completion, do they estimate a value? I understand they are recorded in a registry, but don’t really comprehend the details of that process.

My registry set has values listed on most of the cards. I don't really pay attention to their estimates. Some are good some are WAY off.

Any knowledge/ insight you can pass on is much appreciated. With the horror stories I read about here, I’m weighing the pros and cons of this adventure. The sets I am considering are 1962 Post baseball and football.

Glad you at least informed us of what sets you are considering. You could post some scans if you want more and better answers.

I am curious as to why you want the entire set graded. For your personal collection?

Click that link and look around; the answers to all the questions you have asked can be found - with answers provided directly by PSA - to literally everything you are wondering about in your post.

I would spend a day or two really scrutinizing the information, especially about grading standards, turnaround times and how to submit before jumping to the actual submission page.

If you are the type to want to throw caution to the wind, send in an order and ‘get in line’ the I would HIGHLY recommend that you start with the cards that are going to be worth encapsulating regardless of grade - this would be pre 1970 HOF (T206, 33-34 Goudey, 1950s Topps rookie cards) starting with the oldest and most valuable.

For example, if you have a 1952 Topps Willie Mays or Jackie Robinson or Mickey Mantle, certainly start there if you can afford to; if you’ve had it a long time as you imply then the cost of grading that card ($200+) will be money well spent.

    Good luck; post pics!
