Eeesh! Do you think it looked like that when slabbed or do you think it may have turned somewhat in the holder?

The current color isn't the problem. The possible cleaning underneath the color is the issue.

As best as I can tell that is a very recent submission.

That is a classic example of a coin that was dipped and improperly rinsed....but it takes awhile to get to this point.

They are allowed to slab ugly coins, but that is right on the edge of stained.

I've seen plenty of fugly coins in graded holders over the years. Looks XF40ish.

It's in an AU50 holder so IMHO it is over graded also!

Suggest sending it back for the conservation service.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Attractive isnt the same thing as gradable. That why valuation is effected more by total coin grading than technical grading except in the cases of rarity where grading is more of a raking of survivors.

This is an example of why price guides are so messed up. I would pay at least double for a nice one in the same grade and holder! The 01-O is a major sleeper in better grades. That POS just turned my POP 1 AU50 to a POP 2. :s

Is that a newly slabbed coin?

It has to be due to the number and I know I checked the POP reports at the most 2 months ago.

while that sucks and i get it, the only alt would be to only put nice coins in holders and that option has a lot more losers
