Spots on Saints

I like spots & I found a nice one near melt price (MS63)
The TrueView posted today after a very long wait for a re-holder.
I'm going to update this thread like the saint error thread.
If you know of any spotted ones, please post a picture. (You don't have to own them)

There's a reason you were able to buy your MS63 Saint at near melt. Most gold collectors don't like spots but will tolerate a few minor small spots in non-prime focal areas.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
I like the one you posted with the copper spot right on the torch! Do you have that picture?

That's one of my favorite spots. It's in Hansen's daughter's saint set. (MS65)

This Saint has a spot, I don't mind it at all.

I prefer my gold to be spot free.... but if the overall coin is to my liking, (such as the one right above), I would likely get it anyway. Cheers, RickO
Here is another "torch spot"
This time it's in Simpson's #1 set (you can tell because most of his saints start with 06666)

I couldn't help but thinking about a book I read to my young grandchildren that makes me smile. The kid in the book uses:
“super-indelible-never-come-off-until-you’re-dead-and-maybe-even-later colouring markers.”
I guess the spots on these coins are definitely not going to be removed!
I wish I could find them at near melt! Seems everywhere I look ms63 saints go for 15-20% over spot.
I like the spots, though.

So-called copper spots on gold have never really bothered me either.
That exposed copper presence does not bother me at all. Strike detail is more important. Peace Roy

I didn't realize copper spots on gold was so popular. I wonder how long before the coin doctors use magic markers to create artificial spots on gold coin coins to enhance their desirability and value.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
I was wondering when someone would mention that.
The above spots are more likely caused by ordinary iron rust than copper or silver.
The long explanation is contained in Roger Burdette's excellent book SAINT-GAUDENS DOUBLE EAGLES (2018 IvyPress)

I posted some results on Cointalk about the simple removal of red spots, which is a simple and non-destructive method from crystallography/chemistry.
Well, just Love coins, period.
I avoid spotted Saints.
Here is a coin that has spots, a die crack, collapsed die & no sticker.

Spots don't seem to matter as much on a 1921
