Acquired a DREAM card
It’s a funny thing to take a quote out of context. Especially when it’s a tragic hero that we’re talking about and the quote is the speech’s most famous line. In it, he encapsulated who he was as a person more eloquently than any book or movie or documentary ever would or could. As he delivered the line, he was telling the fans and the world at large what he believed life was all about: to be grateful for the time you have and live your life with humility and grace.
Perhaps that is the link: I am quite humbled by the acquisition of this card. It’s prior owner is a hobby legend and it was acquired via a trade with him. I believe it is a card that is true low pop meaning there are reasons why this card has fewer copies floating around than other cards in the set. As for the PSA Population Report, there are 31 examples graded at present. This one is on the lower side of that small spectrum but fits my ‘eye appeal far in excess of assigned grade’ collection to a ‘T’ and it arrived just this morning. So, for all the reasons mentioned, the aforementioned quote feels right, even out of context.
Today...I consider myself...the luckiest man on the face of the earth.

great card!...does PSA now grade football Exhibits?....have an SGC Otto graham and SGC Marion Motley...both highest graded....
Sorry, I don’t think anything outside of baseball.
Perhaps one day, though; the check listing of them has improved dramatically over the years and PSA seems to adding new specs all the time lately, even in the area of vintage.

Congratulations Tim - always gratifying to see someone pick up their dreamer.
I don't collect exhibits but hope you don't mind that I complement your card with a machine that just might have supplied that card?
I picked this up a few years back.
Mike, I’m just glad you’re back.
To answer the query, though, you can post any thing you want, any time you want in any thread I ever start, amigo.

Wow Tim, congrats on landing a dream card! I love Exhibits and I believe I have the salutations DiMaggio you showed above, though in worse condition.

Thanx for the kind words buddy.
If I had to guess Tim? Each would hold the height of a vending box + - so somewhere between 500 - 750 or so.
Have ya got a "new" dreamer?
I dig your 76 uncut sheet--That's cool...
Mike,
I will always dream of, and likely never own, a 1952 Topps #311. Even in my dreams, I’d be on a ‘budget’ - something low grade but nice? PSA 2-3? Centered and nice looking. As an example, this is a PSA 2 of the next year card. To my eye, it’s gorgeous:
Or this one that is at PSA now; I have heard actual guesses from people who are pretty sharp ranging from 3.5 to 6. That’s a pretty broad range but also, probably, accurate. It’s a subjective art, grading, and it’s very not easy. I could see the case for the 3.5, the 6 or anything in between:
Now if you know 1969 Topps, the centering and lack of tilt to this card is very atypical. The corners are strong at first glance but soft under closer inspection. And whatever number goes on the flip? I’ve not seen many stronger looking examples of the White Letter Mantle than this one and I collect cards, not flips, Mike.
And I learned that from guys like you: but the card, not the holder.
😉
Best,
Tim

I hear ya Tim.
Back in 1992, I attended the National in Atlanta...
A guy had a 53T Mantle PSA 8 for 3500$. I thought? Wow! That's like a million bucks! Fast forward? Well you know...
Thanx!
Awesome thread. Makes me feel young again.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE .... the White Letter Mantle!

THANKS!
It’s at Newport Beach now.
I think it’s a really stunning card, myself, and despite the ‘flaws’ it’s got an amazing level of eye appeal. Crease free.
