What is the story on the 1936p WLH DDO?

Why are they all low grades?
Have you ever picked one in the wild?

A very rare variety. Probably all in low grades because it wasn't discovered until long after issuance. Similar to the 1919 DDO dime, there is an EF and most of the rest of them are low grades.
I think every Cherrypicker is looking for it. No, haven't found one yet, only saw one in a pic when a low-grade one was auctioned.

I've been looking for that one for a long time with no luck. As Rich says, it's quite rare. In my opinion it's one of the top doubled (actually tripled) die varieties in the entire US series.
I looked for even an attributed one to buy and never found one. Haven’t seen a 61 Franklin in a min either

Which one?
Five are listed.

[Edit: wow, 5 listings, but not the dramatic one!]
I'm assuming it's this one, Die #3; FS-101. It can be found here-http://www.varietyvista.com/10 Walking Liberty Halves/1936PDDO003.htm
That’s a cool one.
That it is. I rank it up there with the 1916/16 5c, although it isn't worth nearly as much.
I think it's worth more. Here's the only one I've seen:

VG-10 sold for $15,000.

Not my jam but they are incredibly rare.

Looking at that I think you might be right, Rich. I didn't know of that sale or any other for that matter. I have seen one in person, a harshly cleaned VF. That coin also had moderate Class V doubling on the reverse on UNITED STATES.
kkw, this is the only sale of this variety I am aware of.

many have looked; many have failed.
<----
Actually the 1916/16 and this '36 half have at least one thing in common even tho they are different Classes of doubling (5c-ClassV; 50c-probably a Class IV+VIII.) Both show very strong doubling on the date.
That would be my dream find while roll searching half dollars....

Wow. Just plain Wow.
Some newbie must have been hubbing in Philly.
Here's another 1936 mistake:
Pete
1936 was a good year for doubled dies. They can be found on every denomination for the year. The best, of course, is the half dollar but there's two very nice doubled dies for the cent; nickel, both obverse and reverse; and an excellent obverse doubled die for the quarter.
well, may as well post another one:
MS 67 !!!!!!!! fs-101 (018.7)
That's an outstanding example!
Is the die crack from the E to the G IN GOD WE TRUST a diagnostic for this error or common to many dies?
