Back to Collecting!!

Hi all. After a 10-year hiatus from these forums and US coin collecting, I’m back to both! My old login ID is connected to an inactive email, lost in the abyss, so looks like I get to start over.

I’ve been collecting off and on for over 40 years now (started at 10, I’m now 51) so I sort of know what I’m doing. Years ago I submitted my share of coins to PCGS where I got pleasant surprises and body-bag disappointments.

For years I considered myself a type collector. Before my hiatus I focused on Walking Liberty Halves and Jefferson Nickels and am picking up where I left off. I found more enjoyment and direction focusing and studying specific series and completing albums.
I’m also helping my boys with albums of Roosevelt Dimes and Kennedy Halves, hoping I can pass of my enjoyment of the hobby that I’ve enjoyed for years.

Any tips, advice, or suggestions when buying any of these series on ebay or other on-line auction sites would be appreciated.

I appreciate these boards for the knowledge, helpful advice, and brutal honesty. I'll probably have more questions than answers, but hopefully can add some positive contributions. I can’t wait to show you all the coins I’ve found at local parking lots with valuable mint errors. Just kidding. :D:)

Good to be back.

Glad you’re back! Post a pic of one of your favorite coins from your collection and why it’s a favorite?

Couldn't agree more. It's a remarkable corner of the internet. Welcome back.

Awesome...I did the exact same thing about a year ago! But I wasn't returning...I had never really been online with the hobby at all, other than purchases. And now I wonder if we even have the same birthday because we're the same age and collecting about the same amount of time  I may have started only a tiny bit earlier in around 1978
Yup, the communities have been wonderful and ultra helpful!!!

@Allentram , welcome back to the forum!

My only tip about buying coins online would be to look into Great Collections if you haven't already. It's more or less replaced eBay as the venue where weekly online coin auctions take place. eBay is mostly fixed price listings these days, much of it overpriced, but you can still sometimes find things to buy there as well.

Collector's Corner is a useful aggregator of offerings from many different dealers and auction houses.

    Happy hunting!

Thanks! I noticed that about ebay too, mostly BIN items, very few auctions, cautious about pricing.

I've browsed Great Collections and Collector's Corner just a couple of times, will probably sign up soon.
