Possibly fake bullion? what do we think?

New seller based in Hungary and shipping from Hungary. Has listed a lot of gold, and while theres a chance seller is legitimate, the boxed gold and the this 1/2oz AGE do make me question, especially with a lot of fakes from overseas. What do y'all think?

Same cert # for Chinese 1/2 oz gold Three Gorges Dam being sold elsewhere.

    Good research. Impressive.

This. There are many reputable sellers in the US.

If you're in the states, why bother to buy bullion from Hungary?

    Agree!!!

You (and I) presumably don't know the laws or the language in Hungary so if something went wrong you wouldn't even know where to start.

Would eBay cover your loss if you got scammed?

I don't have 100% confidence that either ebay or paypal would cover any losses involving gold or silver bullion. Some of their rules I have seen make it unclear. It seems to be getting worse with the USPS also.

And certainly... why would anyone here in the States even think about trying to get bullion from Hungary from a person with zero feedback? Many many items available right here in the States, from reputable and known sources.

My fear would be that there are different laws that might allow the sort of chargeback that can be done here.

I don't think ebay covers all transactions and I don't know of bullion and/or intl transactions are covered.

Given the details (location, sellers info) I would not even consider this auction.... Nor would I invest such money in an overseas auction, even if it did not have red flags. Just too much potential for things to go wrong. That being said, I did buy a relatively inexpensive piece from Tel Aviv, Israel. The 'package' arrived, but not the item. The seller replaced it immediately when notified. Good outcome that time. Cheers, RickO

@tonedSilver whoa great catch. glad we got a confirmation on this seller.

I find sellers in israel tend to be pretty responsible. one of the only countries outside NA,europe, australia that i have no problem buying from, many pleasant experiences with them.

Best idea is to stick with ASEs and AGEs from reputable dealers, at least in the US.
