Gimme your 3 cents worth please

A pick up at a local flea market, vendor selling dino teeth, bones, petrified wood, stone implements, etc. Pleasant guy who I've spoken with in the past. He asked what I collected, I said coins. He had one in his pocket. Old dirty unmarked flip protecting this 1858 Trime. The detail seems pretty nice, especially the star points and lines. QDB photograde says type II shows strike weakness which accounts for some of the condition. XF seems to match. What say you. Thanks. Peace Roy

Burton's handy-dandy cheat sheet to grading circulated trimes.
9
/1/ Check the upper lobe of the C on the reverse. If you can see the edge outline it's MS.
/2/ Count the number of the points on the shield that show wear (outlines worn into the lines of the star. Each one is a grade down from AU50.
/3/ Count the number of the elements inset into the C on the reverse that show wear - the diamond at 9 o'clock, the six orbs, and the two bars. Deduct from AU50 for that.
Pick the lower obverse / reverse grade.
And be careful of strike weakness...
The shield point at 9-10 o'clock shows wear. There is a tiny bit at 1-2 and 7-8. XF40
The diamond shows wear and all of the orbs show touches, but most is strike. Call it 3 points net, so VF35.
VF35, possibly VF details because of the scratch on the obverse at K9
ANA 50 year/Life Member (now "Emeritus")
VF35?
The rims tell a different story.
Thanks for the Burton diagnostic. I didn't have that info. This is why I'm here. Peace Roy

Obverse right side wear makes it a VG to me. Fine at best.

@MFeld Thanks for the link. I consider the trime $10 well spent. The only trimes I had up to this point were dug, they have dates but more wear. Have a good night. Peace Roy

VF something, and well worth $10, IMO. I don’t see any conclusive evidence of any bends, something that you need to watch for on these delicate fish scales.
The weakness on the right obverse and the strength of the right reverse makes me think it has a slight bend in it,
@CaptHenway nope, nice and flat, they are a delicate wafer of silver though.

I like photograde and would put it in the F12-VF25 range

Looks like a 30 to me... Those are huge pictures, and may be a 35 if not so magnified.... Cheers, RickO
@davewesen thanks for that link. I can't believe I forgot that source. @ricko larger is not always better. Peace Roy
