Possible Mint Error Quarter Eagle

I have a vintage gold necklace from China made up of seven 1908 US quarter eagles. Problem is the coins are NOT the Indian Head obverse, which started in 1908, but rather are the same as the 1907 and earlier obverse design. Has anyone seen this before? Trying to find out if these are genuine or counterfeit. I had them tested and they are all real gold. I would appreciate advice on how to have these evaluated. If real, they would be a real find! Thanks!

I would say fake coming from China. Pictures would help though.

China counterfeits many US coins. They may be gold but they aren't a genuine US Mint made product. Can we get some pics?

Let’s see..... Legal Tender design, but showing a date one year after the U.S. government stopped striking that design... Yep! They are counterfeits!

Definitely not real - even without seeing them. They would be the only 7 such errors known and they all landed in a piece of jewelry??? They were made that way for the jewelry. Not uncommon, by the way, nor really pernicious if it is vintage. You see a lot of those "replicas" in jewelry.

Absolutely counterfeit pieces as described in the original post, but heck it would still be great to see images.

I disagree, they are clearly fantasy tribute issues

@HenryS.... Welcome aboard... No doubt they are not US Mint products... but would be nice to see the pictures. Cheers, RickO

That is actually a better name for them. They likely were designed strictly for jewelry.

I was joking, anybody who makes a US looking coin that isn't the US mint is a counterfeiter. Some are to deceive, some are to cheap out but all are to profit off of fakeness.

any coin that looks like a US coin that wasn't made at the mint is a counterfeit regardless of the date.

One designation does not necessarily preclude the other.

But, this has long been a subject of debate with some Daniel Carr pieces: The Daniel Carr 1964 Peace Dollar, for example. Counterfeit? Dan says "no". "Fantasy Tribute Issue" Dan would say "yes".

Since Dan hasn't been arrested, I'm assuming the Federal government agrees with Dan.

Those aren’t genuine coins and I’d think the same, regardless of their dates.
