Okay, so they are from 1896, not 2010
And the designer was Charles Barber, not Lyndall Bass.

Very cool coins! Shield cents aren't what they used to be...
Same with McDonald's french fries.
Yea I was expecting something else also
Wouldn't know, haven't eaten one in decades.
They really are something
Those are cool but I am glad they with Lincolns
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I like the new Shield Cents too.
It doesn't seem like Simpson collects the moderns, but Hansen does. Here's a @DLHansen coin to compare:
2014-D Lincoln Cent - PCGS MS69RD POP 2/0 - Hansen
Amazing that this modern is a POP 2/0!
impressive pieces and designs.
i for one am very glad we never went the beaded border route.
but i would have loved to have seen this design come into play.

I really like the shield design... The old one more than the new one. Back when liberty was cherished. Cheers, RickO
Sooo... what you are saying is that the shield cent idea was not original in 2010 and that they stole the idea from back when artists designed our coinage. They just made it more "correct" for the times.
So why didn't the mint bring back that shield design for the current cent? Whatsa matter with those guys? Peace Roy

Never thought I'd hear Charles Barber and Lyndall Bass uttered in the same sentence!
PS-Simpson's Barber Shield cent in brass is absolutely gorgeous!!

I like the current shield design. It would have made a fantastic coin with the Flying Eagle obverse.
I picked up the J-1768 (NGC PR64BN /CAC) a few years back and while it is not in the top Population like most of SImpsons pieces it is the rarer Pollock-1985A variety (believe to be High R.7).
Note the staff with the eagle pointing toward the open space to the right of the S in PLURIBUS vs pointing to the center of the S and also the Left end of the Liberty banner is lower and almost touch the 3rd star. And on the reverse the position of the letter "T" in CENT is slightly different in relation to the numeral "1"
